This is the Space Shuttle Discovery Landing Live Thread
Space shuttle Discovery's crew gets another day in space after mission controllers opted not to have the shuttle land on its second opportunity because of poor weather conditions at and around Kennedy Space Center.
See everyone tomorrow.
With Monday's landing tries called off because of bad weather at Kennedy Space Center, the crew of shuttle Discovery will reopen the cargo bay doors and return to their in-space configuration. They will prep again early Tuesday morning for several landing opportunities at Kennedy and at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The first landing chance is scheduled for 7:33 a.m. at Kennedy, with another at 9:08 a.m. The Edwards opportunities begin at 9 a.m. with another at 10:36 a.m. and the last one coming at 12:11 p.m.
Since this is in breaking news, would you kindly update the headline to include “Waved Off to 4/20 @7:33am”?
Cheers.
Why open the doors again?
well as it turns out the landing will be tomorrow anyway but I thought maybe that Sept date was the date of the last landing ever of a Discovery
Heat dissipation from the running equipment.
I’m glad. First landing opportunity tomorrow, the shuttle passes near enough for me to see it go by, less than 100 miles; in daylight, but while it is still glowing hot.

Anybody know what “Solar Sep” or “srss” are? I thought Solar Sep was its angular separation for the observer from the sun, but it is obviously wrong for that for my location.
Ah, so
A little Chinese lingo? ;-)
I was born in 1978. I’ve only known the space shuttle for American manned space flight and it’s hard to imagine this country without it. It certainly seems like the end of an era and, sadly, it is.
Here is a representation of NASA’s budget in 2009 compared to the budget of the Health and Human Services budget for the same time period.
Each X = approximately $10 Billion
NASA: XX
Health and Human Services: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Hussein cuts NASA and expands Health and Human Services
If they land here in CA, it had better be early as we have a storm headed in...
