I’ve heard some explanations for Paul collecting money to be sent back to the Christians in Jeruselum that were having a difficult time. They were trying their hand at communal living. I think there are other New Testament accounts where lazy folks were being admonished. Presumably in one of these communal living arrangements.
And of course the Pilgrims barely made it until they switched to a “free-market” system of living.
Paul’s letter to the Corinthians said, if someone doesn’t work, then they don’t eat. That’s a paraphrase.
Paul did accept free will offerings and then usually if not always, gave them to needy churches. Paul himself worked as a tent maker.
