Obama sneaks a payoff to Big Labor with an Executive order media ignored
The Collins Report ^ | April 17, 2010 | Kevin “Coach” Collins

It’s kickback time

In 2008 unions gave Democrats $68,272,996 and Republicans $6,022,906 meaning 92% went to Barack Obama and his Democrats. For this money Big Labor thought it was buying the un-American Card Check scheme which would force all workers to “join” a union.

Although Card Check has failed the reason for its necessity has not changed. Union membership is shrinking and with that contraction union dues are falling sharply. Since 92% of all union campaign contributions go to Democrats, having unemployed union workers not paying dues, which eventually turns into Democrat war chest cash can not be tolerated.

Obama paying his bills

In February Obama quietly signed Executive Order 13502 ordering federal agencies to accept only union shop bids for construction projects over $25 million. Since only 15% of construction workers are unionized this virtually guarantees: every union construction worker a job and that nonunion workers will be banging down the doors of union halls.

The “$25 million” threshold will provide work for just enough non-union workers to give credibility to the lie that “Oh no we don’t hire ONLY union workers, why take a look at our books.”

Permanent cost overruns

In this worst economy since Democrat Franklin Roosevelt’s Administration paying union workers merely because they are union workers makes no sense. The average weekly salary .. unionize construction worker is $908.00, but the average non-union worker earns just $710.00 or 22% less.

Double whammy

Obama’s sellout will cost us more for each federal project because it slams a double edge sword into our heart. It means federal projects can only be completed with union work that always costs more, and actual free market costs have been obliterated as jobs will be regularly over bid.

Pension bomb

..average union pension program ... looted and is only 62% funded....

The good news is that executive orders can be rescinded easily when we finally get a president in the Oval Office.

Here in Michigan Jenny Granholm gave the SEIU a $2 million tax credit.

“””””It means federal projects can only be completed with union work that always costs more,””

I’m not so sure I agree with the authors take on the cost aspect. All federal and most state projects I work on require that the “prevailing wage” be paid. The LOWEST wage I can pay a common laborer is around 40 bucks an hour.

It’s really meant as a way to avoid competition and gives the unions a place to pay their overpriced wages as they can’t compete in the market without government looking out for them.

Of course, since he no longer has press conferences, few of the media would have the opportunity to as him about it—if they wanted to.

They can also be overruled by a law passed by Congress.

Trouble is, the “overpriced wages” are paid to union officials. The reason the wages are overpriced, is so that the union can take the difference.

When will people stop being so stupid and recognise that unions are the oppressors now. The officials are the ones lining their pockets, and taking advantage of the workers. The officials live just as well as the Presidents of the companies do—and waste the worker’s pension funds. How about some regulations on their books? Where is the oversight?

I think we should stop forcing the employer to play collection agency for the unions. If the union has to pass their own collection plate around, the members become very aware of their dues and a lot more interested in what happens to them.

It also gives the members far more control over their leadership. Imagine union members going on strike against their own union. They could keep working while withholding dues and leave leadership with virtually no leverage.

Seems to me, B. Hussein just gave "standing" to a whole bunch of non-union corporations and business owners.

With no entanglement of Congress, this action is his and his alone.

Several years back, a local developer was denied a new housing project because the School District didn’t have the $8.5 million dollars to build a new Elementary School to support it.

The developer took the District’s exact plans, PRIVATELY built the school using non-union labor for $999,500, then sold it to the District for $1.

This was either Franklin, or Warren, in Marion County, Indiana, as I recall. And it’s a PERFECT example of how out of whack Government Contracting is.

One of President Palin’s first executive orders should be to prohibit ANY gov’t contracts to unions. Unions are mafia and need to be shut down hard.

Prevailing wage is set up to give union contractors a chance to compete with open shop contractors on federal projects. Unfortunately (for unions), even with the prevailing wages, unions are still not always competitive due to union work rules. For instance, an operating engineer can switch equipment ONCE on day, say from bulldozer to backhoe, for instance. Even under prevailing rates, open shop contractors have more flexibility. Prevailing wages aren't enough, the unions want guarantees. (Oh, and buy the way, non-union contractors and employees may get exempted from contracts, they are not exempted from federal taxes.)
