Jason Levin, the middle school teacher behind the Crash The Tea Party project, is dismissing claims that he misused his position to organize the scheme.
Levin is currently on a paid leave from the Beaverton, Oregon school district where he works while school officials investigate charges that he used school time and equipment to create the website CrashTheTeaParty.org. He told me his attorneys have advised him not to do any interviews while the investigation runs its course. But in a written statement he emailed me this morning, Levin said the charges are without merit.
"Any allegation that I used school district equipment or district time to create or maintain the website is completely and totally false," Levin wrote. "The fact that teachers are held to a higher standard when excercising their right to free speech (in their private lives) is patently unfair."
In a sign that the hullabaloo the project has caused is getting to him, however, Levin has offered the site up for sale -- cleaning his hands of the tea party infiltration plan that drew the ire of conservatives across the country, including Sean Hannity.

“His crime wasnt free speech but using tax dollars to promote his agenda...Im confused”
And I’m greatly offended that he used the taxpayer money to promote such slime.

Ah, Jason, Jason, Jason. I’m also a teacher. At a public school. Writing these comments right now on the laptop provided by my employer. I don’t own two computers, one for my private life and one for my lesson plans and curriculum. I’d be surprised if you do.
However, Jason, you’ve been given a sacred trust. The parents in your community trust you to work with their children to promote their learning in a safe, respectful classroom. See those words “community” and “trust,” Jason? Right next to the word “children,” Jason? You had better be held to a higher standard than most people; you’re working with the sons and daughters of the people who pay your salary and provided you with your laptop with their tax dollars.
Sure, you were practicing “free speech.” Perhaps you missed the part of civics class where you are also responsible for the impact of your speech. You were showing the children in your classroom how to subvert those other parts of the first amendment about free association and redressing the government for grievances; you were showing children that it is all right to smear and defame others who disagree with you; and you were showing children that you had a callous disregard for the very people whose taxes paid for your school and job. Shame on you, Jason.
In fact, Jason, your behavior reflect on all of us who work in classrooms, and for that alone you should be fired. Sadly, you’re probably protected by tenure, and the union which supposedly represents us will spend millions defending your indefensible actions.
As I tell my students, nothing on the Internet is private. Just read my comments here, Jason. I think I could defend them before the teacher practices commission in my state. The words are strongly stated, yes, but also stated with politeness and a respect for the profession. You didn’t that on your website, Jason. Now you’ll pay the price for your unprofessional conduct.
(As I’ve been writing this, I’ve been imaging Jason as an immature seventh-grader standing before me. It’s quite an image. I feel much pity for this lost soul.)
rasiss! Kik yur ASS!

tru dat
After you’ve all had your fun, be sure to clean up real good with plenty of soap and water. ;O)
The thing that bothered me even more so than his infiltration idea and the skewed views he had of Tea Party individuals was the comments he made about the kids he was teaching.
I sent an email to the school about that and said how would your students feel if they knew he felt this way about him. I followed that up with a letter to the school district.
And fair or not, teachers are now and likely always will be, held to a higher standard. They spent 8 hours a day with our children and grandchildren.
Yes you’re right. He was also advocating that if you knew any Republicans - only Republicans mind you - that were cheating on their taxes, doing anything illegal and some other things, I can’t remember them all - he had phone numbers for you to turn them in.
You should call and turn in Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel.
Oh what a shame. He coulda been a contender. Instead, he joins the ranks of Barry’s useful idiots.
He is guilty as sin and he knows it.
;<)
Whoever those folks were, they were funny as hell.
U naughty kitten!
I'll give you three guesses!
You should call and turn in Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel.

I’d love to but who would listen?! Tim Geithner should never have been approved for his position and Rangel, well who has enough time to go there??
Levin has said he would seek to embarrass Tea Partiers by attending their rallies dressed as Adolf Hitler, carrying signs bearing racist, sexist and anti-gay epithets and acting as offensively as possible — anything short of throwing punches.
In a recent interview with Talking Points Memo, Levin said of his plans, “Our goal is that whenever a Tea Partier says ‘Barack Obama was not born in America,’ we’re going be right there next to them saying, ‘Yeah, in fact he wasn’t born on Earth! He’s an alien!’”
In a now deleted post on his “Crash the Tea Party” Web site, he called on his supporters to collect the Social Security numbers — among other personal identifying information — about as many Tea Party supporters as possible at the numerous rallies that took place on Thursday, Tax Day.
“Some other thoughts are to ask people at the rally to sign a petition renouncing socialism. See just how much info you can get from these folks (name address, DOB, Social Security #). The more data we can mine from the Tea Partiers, the more mayhem we can cause with it!!!!” he wrote.
The state agency is investigating whether this is a hint at identity theft, and whether it is appropriate behavior for a public school teacher. It also will investigate charges that Levin used school computers during school hours to work on his Web site. Levin teaches 6th, 7th and 8th graders about computers and technology.
