I got something similar this week and I use Windows Vista. Anyone else have this issue? It happened to me in Nov/Dec but not since. Blue Screen of Death. I installed the recent updates and that seems to be the problem. Not entirely sure. Yesterday morning, the BSoD appeared, but last night all was fine. My brother suggested I run a system restore and set it for earlier in the week; for at least now, this seems to be working properly.

I should add that I tried signing on earlier today and it failed. Then I tried the System Restore and it worked.

The last event was caused by a root kit (aka trojan).

You would think they would test these patches better before releasing them

My Vista had a weird event this morning. Programs just started shutting down, and the system shut itself down before I could do it myself.

Today’s patch caused a BSOD with my Intel internal WiFi on my laptop.
WinXP Pro 32 bit.
NETw5x32.sys didn’t play well with one of the updates. Had to roll back manually through safe mode while the WiFi chip was turned off from boot up. Not sure which update is the culprit yet.

**My Windows Xp just crashed bc my kid hit the power button while it was powering down....ughhh!
I get the error screen and have options to Start in Safe Mode, Restart normally, Restart with last Known Config., etc.
No matter what option I choose, it cycles back to the same error screen with the above options.
Any of you fine techie FReepers ever heard of this one?

My Windows Vista will not install the Sevice Pack 2 from last year.

If you use McAfee, you can sleep at night knowning you're in good hands.
I'm on DSL and the only time my computer shuts down (re-boots) is for upgrades.
Anyway, I'm happy - it keeps me out of trouble.

Just a little piece of advice to all from someone with 26 years in the biz.
Never, ever set your Windows updates to automatic. Make sure it “asks” you first. Then....say no for a while. Let ‘em percolate for a while. Go slow on accepting updates.
I’ve seen this far too many times with Microsoft over the years. It’s the same reason I never buy version 1.0 of any new Microsoft OS.

Microsoft is pushing a large amount of updates in the past few days. They wakadoodled my vista laptop big time yesterday!
It froze during startup and I had to hard boot it twice to get through it... Dayum! Going to reset my upgrade permission from automatic to ask me first mode...
