Obama Mocks Tea-Party Protestors While Taking Advantage of Tax Loopholes For Himself

As usual, the mainstream media plays down the Tea Party protests except when it tries to paint them in a bad light. For example, the Tax Day protests in Washington, D.C. were buried on p. 17 of The New York Times, right above an article reporting that the Obamas paid $1,792,414 in federal income taxes on earnings of $5,505,509 for 2009. Is that juxtaposition supposed to be some sort of subtle message that President Obama shares our pain and, therefore, we have nothing to be upset about?

In truth, Obama’s tax reporting raises some concerns of its own. For example, I would like to know why the Obamas deducted $52,195 in home mortgage interest payments and $22,456 in real estate taxes when they have lived for free at taxpayer expense in the White House since January 20, 2009? Even if there were a loophole that they were entitled to take advantage of, why didn’t the Taxer-in-Chief forego these deductions, as well as his $329,100 in charitable deductions, as an example to the rest of us? After all, his Vice President Joe Biden said that paying higher taxes is the “patriotic” thing for the wealthy to do.

For his part, Obama told a fundraiser in Miami in mocking tones that Tea Party protestors should be thanking him for lower taxes:

You would think they’d be saying thank you

With that bit of prompting, his dutiful fans stood up and yelled, “Thank you!”

I watched the video. My impression is that all though there were plenty of laughs, towards the end of Obama’s remark one could see that the TEA Party is under his very thin skin.

President Ellsworth Toohey makes $5.5 million a year...and everyone keeps a straight face while he drones on about “economic justice”...

Yes.

I’m certainly no tax expert but I thought I heard somewhere that if you get cash with the power to give it away, that is INCOME.

The bulk of his book sales last year were overseas. Those pointless trips on AF1 he made weren’t so pointless for his bottom line
