BART police pull Tasers, will retrain officers

OAKLAND -- The BART Police Department stripped its officers of Tasers on Thursday, days after a sergeant fired the electric darts of his stun gun at a 13-year-old boy fleeing from police in Richmond on his bicycle, sources told The Chronicle.

BART officials, who said officers would be retrained to use the devices, attributed the decision to the Richmond incident as well as a recent federal court ruling that narrowed the circumstances under which police can use Tasers.

The officials said they could not comment on the Richmond case, citing privacy laws that apply to internal investigations. Interim Police Chief Dash Butler said only that the incident accelerated plans that were already in progress to retrain officers and update policies on the proper use of Tasers, which BART police began using in December 2008.

Big mistake.
The punks & gang members that prowl the transportation systems in the Bay area are dedicated to trouble.

Riders don’t stand a chance when they are enclosed inside the cars and are more than vulnerable.

The Bay area has experienced a drop in the population of their best & brightest and a severe rise in the dangers of living there.

Liberals with their heads up their behinds.

The new police chief there has repeatedly asked for Tasers.
He gets turned down over & over by the City Council. IMO, if he doesn’t get some cooperation soon from the stupids on the City Council, he will quit and return to Arizona or New Mexico, where he came from. Too bad if he does, he seems to have a no nonsense atitude about the troublemakers in San Fran.

This story is about BART-Bay Area Rapid Transis officers, which is a different group of LEO’s trying to keep peace on the transit system.

The entire area is a huge cesspool. Used to visit there regularly. Never will again. Too dangerous.

What am I missing here? 13-year old, who is olde enough to know better attempts t flee when confronted by police. Policeman uses taser to subdue him. Sounds like the cop made the right choice.
