President Obama on Thursday signed a memorandum requiring hospitals to allow gays and lesbians to have non-family visitors and to grant their partners medical power of attorney.
The president ordered the Department of Health and Human Services to prohibit discrimination in hospital visitation. The memo is scheduled to be made public Friday morning, according to an administration official and another source familiar with the White House decision.
An official said the new rule will affect any hospital that receives Medicare or Medicaid funding.

Micromanager. Sign of immaturity, insecurity, arrogance, inefficiency. What the tar is the President doing paying attention to local issues when the nation is drowning in debt and joblessness?

Once the government has you addicted to DC Crack, you are their bit(h!

So what happens when a “gay” relationship comes into conflict with one by conventional marriage? Or three gays claim to be a threesome, or it’s two gays and a horse, or whatever?
This memorandum is not worth the paper it is printed on.
A sop to the ratty base
I don’t disagree with this. People in a committed relationship should be able to visit their loved ones in the hospital. Obama actually took one of the bigger arguments for gay marriage off the table.
So now Il Douche is running the hospitals? That didn’t take long...
It’s good to know he’ll be able to visit Larry Sinclair if he falls ill, ain’t it?
This will not sit well with the many religious based hospital groups, such as the largely Catholic Providence system...
Governing by fiat...
You beat me to it.
What in Bummercare did he hang this EO off of, anyhow? Without a law, this is so much blither.
So boyfriend of three days comes into comotose man’s room. Claims partner status and begins making medical decisions with no written POA, will hospital be liable when comatose man wakes up and asks why treatments authorized by boyfriend were given, when mom and dad should have been making decisions? Can hospital use the Obama defense??
Is this important? Who cares who can come see you in the hospital if YOU want to see them? Does this really need a law???
This punk gets to order hospitals around? Most are getting Federal money from at least Medicare patients. But that’s just reimbursement
Intensive care units don’t allow non family members.
Is this really the most pressing problem in the country requiring his attention?
Note to self, big government has run out of good ideas.
