Conservative superstar Sarah Palin opened the door yesterday to joining forces with Mitt Romney for a 2012 White House run - a hot ticket that has some Republicans licking their chops at the prospect of unseating President Obama.
Sounds pretty good, Palin declared at yesterdays Tea Party Express rally on the Common when asked about pairing up with the former Bay State governor - giving the idea a big thumbs-up as she left the stage after her headline speech.
Last night, as Palin stopped for cannoli at Mikes Pastry in the North End, she said she was serious about the idea.
I have a lot of respect for Mitt, she told the Herald.
Asked who would be on top of the ticket, Palin roared, Ha! I havent even thought that far ahead yet.
Indeed, Palin said she hasnt decided whether shell run in 2012 - with or without Romney.
Romney, a presumptive 2012 Republican presidential contender who recently embarked on a nationwide book tour, has not ruled out an alliance with Palin, the GOPs 2008 vice presidential candidate.
Mitt Romney respects Sarah Palin and he appreciates the contributions she makes to the party, said Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom. But his immediate focus is on helping Republicans win back the Congress in 2010.
Some veteran political observers were intrigued by the notion of the two telegenic former GOP governors on the same ticket.
They both have a lot they can offer a campaign, said Douglas Lorenz, a California-based GOP consultant. Romney has the experience as a governor and experience as a candidate for president, and when you combine that with Sarah Palins ability to get people motivated, that could definitely be a formidable ticket.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Christy Mihos called the matchup the best of both worlds.
They both come at it from totally different parts of the spectrum, said Mihos, who attended yesterdays Tea Party rally. One deals on a gut level with people and the other is highly successful on the business end of things.
Speaking before a rapt crowd estimated at 5,000, Palin squarely targeted Democrats, pounding away at Obamas $787 billion stimulus package. She also lobbied for domestic oil drilling.
I want to tell em, Nah, well keep clinging to our Constitution and our guns and religion - and you can keep the change, Palin said, later adding, Yeah, lets drill, baby, drill; not stall, baby, stall - you betcha.
Meanwhile, Palin said last night she had no hard feelings about U.S. Sen. Scott Browns decision to skip the rally. He was in Washington doing his job, she said.
If Palin gets the GOP nomination in 2012 and chooses Romney as her running mate, so be it.
I will still vote for Palin.
After all Reagan ran with that RINO Bush in 1980 and was quite successful.
I LIVE IN TEXAS AND NO ONE SPEAKS FOR ME ABOUT HOW TEXAS WILL VOTE!!!
And you’re a pig.
Can anyone say RomneyCare? Romney won’t fly if you don’t like ObamaCare.
Obamacare is still just 1st stage cancer.
While RomneyCare has reached 3rd stage cancer.
Watched Atlanta’s Tea Party activist, Herman Cain’s interview with Neil Cavuto. He is terrific (talk show & CEO of Godfathers Pizza, etc.,)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herman_Cain
He could finish out Obama’s second term.
What a great ticket: Cain/Palin (almost Cain & Abel);)
Sarah is a lot more diplomatic than many of us here are.
She is building coalitions. If and when she runs, she will need the RINO vote too, if she is going to win.
There’s no way she’d select Mitt as her veep, but there’s no reason to antagonize his supporters, either.
Are you sure you belong on this thread? You are so enlightened, sober, thoughtful and rational.
So, you must be drunk or lost;)
If Romney is at the top of the ticket it won't matter if you abandon her or not, she will be window dressing to appeal to her base and make Romney “palatable” and little else.
Meanwhile, Mitt keeps Obamacare and any other crazy ideas in play.
Fortunately I just don't see this pairing. Sarah still seems smarter than this, this is not a McCain situation, she doesn't owe Mitt anything.
If you’re going to make sense you’ll have to leave this thread. It’s for Sarah-hating loons and people who believe press headlines only.
I agree. Cain killed the pizza company I used to work for when he started Godfather’s. I do not think they are as good as they used to be now though.
You were around for the 2008 election, right?
And you are a wonderful human being.
:-)
(I peeked at your FR page).
Romney is the GOP candidate the demrats would prefer so they are pushing it. Franky, I think this story will ultimately prove to be just another attempt be demrats to make Palin look unconservative. It may not even have any credible basis in fact. The Boston Globe has lied before.
I am a Romney hating loon. Socialist have that effect on me, especially a day after they take credit for the idea behind Obama care.
The dolt.
ObamaCare lovin' liberal weenie MITT?
I'm losing faith in Sarah FAST.
Cain was a huge hit with the TEA crowd. He despises Obama’s agenda - this is truly a great guy who loves America.
He is a man of faith and conviction - almost died of cancer and is waiting for a sign from God....on his future endeavors - (he’s bored with golf). What an inspiration!
The headline is a lie and the piece is completely bogus.
