Sen. Bunning endorses Rand Paul over his own 'protege'

Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) is leaving the Senate, but he's not going quietly.

Bunning on Wednesday announced that he will support Rand Paul in the GOP primary to take his seat. The move will be seen as a direct affront to the state's other senator, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and the candidate he is more closely tied to, Secretary of State Trey Grayson.

“Kentucky needs a conservative who will say no to bailouts, stop the government takeover of our economy, end wasteful spending, and bring down our national debt," Bunning said. "And Kentucky’s families need a conservative who believes in traditional values and the rights of the unborn. In 2010, there is only one such conservative running for the United States Senate -- Dr. Rand Paul."

Hey, I was at the Louisville Tea Party today as well. You are correct: Dr. Rand Paul and Bill Johnson both gave great speeches. We were helping tear down a booth after the event was over and, ironically, Trey Grayson showed up. As normal, he had his four or five frat boy handlers with him, and was doing an interview with someone in the media. But it was funny that nobody from the crowd seemed to want to talk to him.

Johnson left the race with in good standing and admiration from Dr. Paul supporters like me, and I hope Dr. Paul, then Senator Paul will be the first to endorse him and stump for him. Governor Johnson would make Kentucky proud and he would work hard to protect Kentucky's unborn children.

I totally agree with you, Theophilus. All the insiders I hear from expect Grayson to convert his failed Senate campaign into his 2011 Governor campaign. And I would be glad to support Bill Johnson over him.

Nice little trick Paul runs with earmarks. He votes against every spending bill but he requests earmarks for his district knowing the the bills will easily pass without his vote.
