In the mid-80s, a sketch starring Phil Hartman as Ronald Reagan showed the president, often lampooned as forgetful, with a razor-sharp command of the Iran-Contra situation, cutting deals in Arabic and barking orders at his staff.I loved it, it made me like Reagan even more.

A brilliant sketch, one of SNL’s bet ever. Hartman was fantastic - as was Dana Carvey as a doddering Jimmy Stewart.

( Mitt Romney would have to advance two more evolutionary steps to qualify as pond scum.)

Hartman did a great Clinton too.
Never forget the skit where he as Clinton goes into the fast food joint with the secret service guys while “on a jog”. Starts talking with the people and starts munching on their food. Takes some guys’ burger and starts diagramming how it resembles Somalia warlords.
The best lines were when the secret service guy brought up Mrs. Clinton finding out about him at the fast food place, he says “Ted, there’s gonna be a LOT of things we don’t tell Mrs. Clinton about.”
