In 2005 Tusk wanted to win the presidential election. And according to the opinion polls - it was very likely to happen. But he lost, which was emotionally painful to him I suppose.
So - he (and the rest of PO) hoped, that they will win the presidential election - to be the major partner within the planned coalition. But again - they lost (not much, but they did).
And - having in mind, that Jaroslaw is a master of political games (and he really is) - Tusk and PO were probably afraid of getting into a “marriage” with such a powerful partner.
You know - the supporters of both parties had similar profiles, and PO were afraid of getting “eaten” by the PiS.
And that Jaroslaw’s and his colleagues' behavior didn't help - the war has started.
Well, behind every cloud is a silver lining, and maybe now they can put all of that aside.
OK, but PiS supporters will tell you, that he was only pretending, and that his behaviour was nothing but PR.
We’ll see, how the situation is going to develop.
Try to imagine Air Force One falling down - packed with the US President, his most important co-workers and most prominent politicians of his party.
I once had an executive job for a mid sized company. One of our company’s rules, was that if a number of us were traveling to the same destination, we were all to take separate flights so that if the worst happened, it wouldn’t leave a huge void in management.
Never have understood why so many government officials travel together at the same time.
As I said - I wasn’t his supporter.
But this tragic event just placed all the reservation regarding Kaczynski in proper proportions.
I’ve heard an excellent comment related to this issue - some fellow on TV said, that on Saturday evening he had taken a newspaper published on Friday. And all the “problems”, that were shaking Polish politcal stage before Saturday morning appeared to be so empty, so stupid....
Verdelet - compare today’s picture of Lech Kaczynski on TV and the rest of the media with the one from one week before ...
Don’t get me wrong.
I don’t mean I wished it happened. Just try to imagine the impact I’d would have on American political stage.
And this is the situation we have in Poland now.
I wonder how many airplanes Obama and his entourage will need.
lizol, I had the Admin Moderator remove my own comment.
I forgot you were in Poland—I have your seen your posts many times, and I know we have commented together a few times.
I know what you meant, and after giving it some thought, I felt my comment could be misunderstood on a few levels.
Poland is stalwart friend of America, and its people love freedom. When the accident happened, I was sickened by it, and by the irony that it happened during travel to an event in history that is shameful. The Soviet Union tried to decimate the future of Poland by slaughtering 20,000 Polish officers, and then blaming it on the Nazis for 50 years.
Now, with this accident, Poland’s best and brightest are once again decimated—in Russia once again.
The American people stand with you, lizol, on this heartbreaking hour of your history. In spite of the shameful way our current President has treated Poland, please know that you and Poland’s people have many, many friends in America.
In 19th century there were two basic tendencies in the Polish literature -the Romanticism and the Positivism. The Romanticism was connected with such names like Adam Mickiewicz, Kamil Norwid or Julius Slowacki (Cz.Niemen based his lyrics mainly on their ideology) while the Positivism is supported mainly by B.Prus, H.Sienkiewicz (e.g. Quo Vadis), etc.
Those two tendencies are different and could be difficult to unite. Anyway, they are like two parts of the one and the same heart - one cannot live without the other.
E.g. I am a PiS supporter, but economic ideas of the Civic Platform seem to me much better and more suitable for contemporary times.
Anyway, both PiS and PO formed one party 10 years ago named Electoral Action - Solidarity. Now, these two halfs are hardline contenders as others actually don't count.
I notice on TV Polonia they are showing a mini-series about Pilsudski, do you know if it’s worth watching. I think they made it around 2001.
I’m sorry. I can’t tell. I never saw it :-(
