This was brought up yesterday too, and like someone else did yesterday, I will point out that green cards are not H-1 employment visas. Green cards take a long time to process, in some cases years, so many of the cards mentioned in the article were applied for during Bush’s term. On top of that, recall that not everyone who got a card did so on their own. A great many got cards because of their family situation, like my wife, who got her card last year because she married me (a U.S. citizen). Just because the government approved a million greencards last year, doesn’t mean they were all handed out to mexican illegals, nor does it mean that the recipients are “taking your jobs”.
Of course, you all could just be a bunch of xenophobic Buchananites, who oppose all immigration, even the legal kind, in which case, never mind.
Our son just married a foreigner who has never been to the US. We now face over a years wait and thousands of dollars of expenses to get her to the US on any kind of visa.
My brother just finished getting his wife of 5 years a green card and she just made her first ever visit to the US with him.
When you see the financial and emotional effort it takes to legally immigrate to the US..it really makes you outright hostile to those who propose any type of amnesity for illegals.
Many of these green cards do go to husbands and wives of US citizens..and they aren’t easy to get or a slam dunk. Even for those who have been married for years.
You chose the wrong chicken to pick on. Both sets of my grandparents were LEGAL immigrants.
