The Department of Homeland Security has just reported that during 2009, they issued 1,130,818 new Green Cards to foreign nationals, allowing them to work legally in this country. That number represents the fourth highest number of cards issued in one year.
750,000 of the new Green Cards were given to the families of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents.
The top four recipient nations are as follows:
-Mexico
164,920
-China
receiving 64,238
-Philippines
60,029
-India
57,304
In Feb. 2009, the financial institution Merrill Lynch announced that the nations actual unemployment rate had reached 13.9 percent. A year later, that number had risen to 17.3 percent. This figure represents Americans who have been laid off from full-time positions and are now working part-time, as well as those who have simply stopped looking for work, and workers whose unemployment benefits have run out.
The official unemployment figure given monthly by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics is now listed around 10 percent, but represents only those Americans currently receiving unemployment checks, and is not truly indicative of the dire employment situation now facing the U.S.
In 1931, the second full year of the Great Depression, the average rate of unemployment was 16.3 percent, with U.S. unemployment peaking at 25 percent in 1933. We now sit in between those two disastrous figures, with an ever-worsening economy.
With U.S. unemployment now at depression levels, we simply can no longer tolerate not only illegal immigration, but any immigration which allows foreign nationals to take much-needed jobs from American citizens.
Why are we paying the salaries of elected representatives who now seem to represent everyone, but us?
The stated goal is to destroy the cohesiveness of the Nation. This is a perfect way to do it.
The man is out to destroy this country in any (make that “every”) way he can. Pure and simple.
He’s working on getting a flat pay rate from doctor to apple picker.
If this is an example of democrat leadership, every jobless and fearful of losing their job American should be outraged with this party and what it is doing to our nation and our families via their policies. If they're using this as a "diversity" tool, they need to rethink it bigtime - because there are plenty of black and hispanic people already here who are jobless.
This was brought up yesterday too, and like someone else did yesterday, I will point out that green cards are not H-1 employment visas. Green cards take a long time to process, in some cases years, so many of the cards mentioned in the article were applied for during Bush’s term. On top of that, recall that not everyone who got a card did so on their own. A great many got cards because of their family situation, like my wife, who got her card last year because she married me (a U.S. citizen). Just because the government approved a million greencards last year, doesn’t mean they were all handed out to mexican illegals, nor does it mean that the recipients are “taking your jobs”.
Of course, you all could just be a bunch of xenophobic Buchananites, who oppose all immigration, even the legal kind, in which case, never mind.
Our son just married a foreigner who has never been to the US. We now face over a years wait and thousands of dollars of expenses to get her to the US on any kind of visa.
My brother just finished getting his wife of 5 years a green card and she just made her first ever visit to the US with him.
When you see the financial and emotional effort it takes to legally immigrate to the US..it really makes you outright hostile to those who propose any type of amnesity for illegals.
Many of these green cards do go to husbands and wives of US citizens..and they aren’t easy to get or a slam dunk. Even for those who have been married for years.
You chose the wrong chicken to pick on. Both sets of my grandparents were LEGAL immigrants.
BTW..neither of them will go to work. Our family mostly believes in stay at home Moms with Dad out working.
I am not sure what your response means. His post was about Legal immigrants.
The poser messiah is a classless thug!
That can't be emphasized enough!
I'm sorry I came across combatantly, but I understand many are attempting to come here legallay and deservedly so. I am all for those people getting here and joining us as citizens. It's the ones who come here under the guise of becoming citizens with no real intent to blend in and become AMERICANS about which I have concern. Some come on religious visas who have been trained the western lifestyle is abhorent. Wannabes who hate hatred for America who were born and raised here look to some of these people for "guidance."
You obviously didn’t read my post closely. I’m married to a legal immigrant. I was pointing out the fallacy that many of the responders seem to be laboring under, to wit: that all those green cards were handed out to illegal aliens and jobseeking immigrants who have no interest in becoming part of the country. Yelling “treason” and talking about how the Zero has betrayed our country because a bunch of people’s green cards made it through the system on his watch is ridiculous.
Also, given your grandparents’ situation, I’m surprised you posted this article. It is obviously written solely to inflame the sentiments of anyone who has no understanding of the green card process. Since your grandparents were legal immigrants, I don’t see why you would have a problem with other people going through the same legal process, regardless of the current labor situation (again, note that the green card process is often long and arduous, and many of the recipients in this article likely started their process under W, possibly even during his first term).
Congress sets the immigration quotas, not the prez.
No one yelled treason, and every president could have this happen under their watch. Enough is enough. Green cards ARE an avenue to immigration fraud. No matter whose family it is, whether yours or mine. That's what the thread was about. Please do not post to me anymore. Here's some examples:
Grandmother led big green-card scam
Snip: Camarillo, known as Cuca, found spouses for her children, her nieces, a nephew and even her three teenage grandchildren, all of whom lived within two blocks of each other.
The marriages were not only arranged, they were also lucrative. Since 1980, Camarillo arranged some 170 matches between more than a dozen of her relatives and foreigners willing to pay cash to marry Americans and get green cards. With fees of up to $12,000 per marriage, the scheme garnered more than $1 million, authorities estimate. Federal prosecutors describe it as one the largest green-card marriage scams in the country and say it was unique because it was a family enterprise. Authorities say the 72-year-old Camarillo and her family avoided detection through identity theft, document fraud and immigration system savvy.
Green card fraud marriage nightmare
Snip: e dated for about 8 months and then married in the year 2000. About a couple of months in the marriage the nightmare began. First he got laid-off from his job and immediately after that he kept making-up excuses for not finding another job. One of his most manipulating excuses for not finding a job was due to his immigration status. He never mentioned to me anything about his immigration status before we got married. I presumed that because he was well-educated, and was even attending San Jose State University for his Master's in Economics, that he had his permanent residency already established. Well no. It turned out that he only had a work visa, and he was trying to get permanent residency through political asylum. He convinced me to sponsor him through my U.S. citizenship to get his permanent residency or what is known as a Green Card.
Dozens caught in green card scam
Snip: The article reports on the arrest of more than 12 Caribbeans due to green card fraud scheme. The U.S. District Judge Lawrence M. McKenna has sentenced Beverly Mozer-Browne, along with her brother, Philip Browne, due to green card scam in Manhattan federal court and she was told to surrender her properties and $1 million worth of money. Aside from them, there were several Caribbean migrants who were charged including Kerry Rampersand, Tasleem Kudrath, and Mervin Trancoso.
Boston cop indicted for marriage green card immigration fraud
Thank you for setting that right.
Lotsa green card skulduggery going on out there!!
Wake Up America, before there is no more America!!
“No one yelled treason...”
See the second post in this thread.
As to green cards being an avenue for fraud, of course they are. And that has been true no matter who the President is. You seem to be hinting that all immigration should be stopped when you talk about green card fraud, and when you highlight the allegedly egregious portions of the article you quoted. And yet you try to claim the moral high ground by pointing out that your grandparents were legal immigrants. So which is it? You can’t say that the current president is opening the floodgates to mass immigration, since the green cards cited in the article were almost certainly applied for well before he got elected. You can’t be calling for stopping all immigration, legal or not, because you took offense to my comment about Buchananites. So what exactly are you trying to say?
