WASHINGTON It is often said that the new health care law will affect almost every American in some way. And, perhaps fittingly if unintentionally, no one may be more affected than members of Congress themselves.
In a new report, the Congressional Research Service says the law may have significant unintended consequences for the personal health insurance coverage of senators, representatives and their staff members.
For example, it says, the law may remove members of Congress and Congressional staff from their current coverage, in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, before any alternatives are available.

And here they thought it was only the oxen of their constituents being gored...
...I hope the democrats amend it to close this loophole before November. That will turn the electoral tsunami into an electoral tectonic plate upheaval!

From the article: "Congress must now decide what steps, if any, it can take to deal with the problem. It could try for a legislative fix, or it could adopt internal policies to minimize any disruptions."
They'll fix it. Laws don't apply to them anyways.

Courtesy of the morons at Daily Kos, here’s the relevant part of the law:
(D) MEMBERS OF CONGRESS IN THE EXCHANGE.
(i) REQUIREMENT.Notwithstanding any other
provision of law, after the effective date of this subtitle,
the only health plans that the Federal Government
may make available to Members of Congress and
congressional staff with respect to their service as a
Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be
health plans that are
(I) created under this Act (or an amendment
made by this Act); or
(II) offered through an Exchange established
under this Act (or an amendment made by this
Act).

They will just write up a fix and attach it to some other bill that has nothing to do with health care.

Well, Pelosi said we had to pass the bill to see what’s in it. Now she knows. Members of Congress should have to buy health insurance at market rates.

LAUGH BREAK: Obamacare Inadvertently ENDS Healthcare for our dear members of Congress..........ROTFL.
Mmmmmmmm..........I'd love to be a fly on the wall to hear the angry calls Harry, Nanny and Ohaha are getting from the elected suckers who they duped into voting for this atrocity.
The WH is sending out personalized gifts (to make amends).
This is to say "thanks for the votes" from your President.

The source is the NYT
Not so fast, the clause found on page 158 EXEMPTS those members and staff which have worked on the bill; Waxman, Stupek, Shakowsky, Obey, Pelosi, and their staff members are exempted. The rest are not.

No offense, this will be ‘fixed’ by dems with language in some other bill. Any Repub against it will be played like “You won’t even give your own staff healthcare?”

Well, we’ll see whether or not parts can be repealed. Reid insisted they cannot. Congress will find a way, I’m certain. Once they demonstrate that this can be done, we have the model to start picking it apart.
