White House kills Hillary SCOTUS buzz
The White House moved quickly today to squelch the widening speculation that Hillary Clinton could be nominated to the Supreme Court, as Senator Orrin Hatch suggested this morning.
"The President thinks Secretary Clinton is doing an excellent job as Secretary of State and wants her to remain in that position," said White House spokesman Tommy Vietor.
Clinton's spokesman had said she was flattered by Hatch's flotation, though happy in her current posts, and others in Clinton's circle had quietly responded warmly to the notion.
But Veitor's comment is aimed at putting an end to the speculation.
Reopening old Democrat party wounds, I should say.
Well, by those standards, the entire Left half of Congress is eligible. ;-)
Jeez Louise, that’s the worst ever.
“Does HRC even have any judicial experience?”
While it’s true that every sitting justice has such experience, it’s NOT a necessary prerequisite for appointment to the Court. Justice Black, for example, was appointed directly from the Senate; Justice Douglas was appointed directly from being head of SEC etc. I think it would be a stretch to appoint someone without legal training, but Hillary has that and even had “real” practical experience as a lawyer, however limited or ethically questionable. Of course, Republicans in theory could have a field day with the Rose Law firm billing records, which would be one reason HRC might think twice about leaping at any such opportunity.
I think Hugo Black was replaced by Lewis Powell, who was replaced by Anthony Kennedy. If it were Kennedy’s seat that was opening up, then Robert C. Byrd would be the obvious choice (for the “Klan seat”).
“That would be a leap of incompetence, even for Obama. Does HRC even have any judicial experience?”
Experience is not even necessary if you are “politically reliable”. That was SOP in the Soviet Union.
“”The President thinks Secretary Clinton is doing an excellent job as Secretary of State and wants her to remain in that position,”
Translation by Mr. Subliminal: “The President thinks Secretary Clinton is doing an excellent [barely passable] job as Secretary of State [BTW, BHO could do WAY better if HE were in that lowly position] and wants her to remain [trapped helpless] in that position [as it would be quite useful to have someone to blame as various time-bombs in Iran, N. Korea, Afghanistan and Taiwan detonate prior to 2012. Mr. Emanuel has pointed out that it would be a shame to waste such crises, as his years in Chicago have taught him and the President the usefulness of this sort of payback in deterring future political opponents from daring to challenge the President’s greatness].”
I don’t know why Obama wouldn’t at least try to put her on the Supreme Court. I don’t doubt for a minute that she is thinking about another run in 2012. She can read the poll numbers as well as we can.
“Betcha shes stomping her little hooves over this.”
Or not

< snicker >
Hillary was on one of the talking head Sunday shows yesterday. I remember commenting to the wife, “Jeeze, you’d think she could wash her hair & put on some makeup before appearing on a scheduled broadcast like this.” I’d say that Hillary just doesn’t give a fig about actually performing as SoS. She only took the job to burnish her resume. Her eyes are still firmly on the top job. She’ll be resigning soon in preparation for her run.
Well, I dunno... IF the 0bama Administration denies something is going to happen, isn’t it axiomatic that it must be true, or at least under consideration?
