Among the many delightful characteristics of Sarah Palin is her seemingly unfailing capacity to capture Barack Obama's angry attention. This week, she criticized his new nuclear policy. Obama responded by saying "I really have no response to that," which was, I think we'll all agree, an awkward prelude to his ... response. He went on with: "The last I checked, Sarah Palin is not much of an expert on nuclear issues." Well, colour me huffy.
The last time anyone else checked, neither is Barack Obama. Chicago politics is no richer in seminars on the finer points of nuclear politics than those of Alaska. Nonetheless, adverting to Sarah Palin's presumed incompetence -- not just on nuclear issues, but on anything -- will garner automatic applause and smirks of condescending approval from vast swathes of American public opinion.
Sarah Palin irritates, agitates, angers and annoys some of the self-appointed finest minds of America to a point long past reason. She has been the target, since the night she walked on stage to speak at a Republican convention, of some of the most savage commentary that the great republic has seen since Richard Nixon.
The great difference, of course, is that Nixon earned some of his venom. He practised political hardball. He was a remorseless partisan with an appetite for political vengeance.
And he received some he did not earn, by virtue of a personality -- secretive, bitter even in success, humourless, cold and anxious -- that made him, fairly or otherwise, a target for the cruellest and most unrelenting attacks.

Let BO keep talking. Yes, keep talking....
Those presidents through history that act “presidential” don’t spend time criticizing their critics. That’s what their staff is for. But it is clear that Palin gets under Obama’s skin, which means that the veneer of The Annointed One is peeling off. But he rarely acts presidential, the bows to foreign dignitaries, the gift to the Queen of England of his own speeches, the back slaps he gives to everyone, the picnic table beer sessions, and on and on.
2012 can’t come fast enough.
The loon hates everyone smarter than him.
The loon hates everyone more politically savvy than him.
The loon hates anyone more attractive than him.
The loon hates anyone who is a better athlete than him.
That’s why he really, really, really REALLY hates Palin.
And she didn’t kill her baby,,,they don’t like that either.
I was furious with Sally Quinn last night (what ever possessed Laura Ingraham to invite HER as a guest?) who was so smug about Sarah Palin. She accused Sarah of pronouncing nu-cle-ar as nucular (because she’s such an ignoramous, of course.) I listened to that clip about 4 times on various programs and Sarah did NOT say nucular.
Why does anyone ask Sally Quinn about anything? We all know how she got HER job — the only thing on which she’s an expert.
In my wildest dreams, I never imagined that when Barack Obama was sworn in, it would be Sarah Palin who would become the “shadow President.”
He gave the Queen his own speeches as a gift? LOL! I sure would have liked to have seen the look on her face. What a joke prez, not just worse than Carter, a lot worse.
I think they hate that she exposes their waning control over the people. They’ve done everything they can to stop her, their media in full attack mode to diminish her yet they’ve failed.
In this case it’s her ability to get the press to throw her jabs in Obama’s face, like with this question he was asked about her. The press loves to see a fight, and Palin (must be) the one that they think will get the most coverage of the clip once made. No other republicans are assuming (or getting) that position she is taking as Obama critic.
The press cant wait till next year.
“I side with those who venture that the nerves Palin hits have more to do with class — where she’s from, how she speaks, where she was educated, what she likes (the moose-hunting), than her politics or her gender.”
The never Palin hits is that she’s honest and a true American. Those who criticize her aren’t either. They may live in this country, but they don’t belong here.
Sally made herself look snooty.
I like watching when Laura interviews bacause Laura manages to help Sally Q look herself, and it ain’t pretty.
Agreed. Sally was her own worst enemy. Blech.
Agreed. Sally’s condescension just dripped from her every pore. What a snob.
Sally Quinn has done her best career work on her back.
Well said.
