Perhaps it's the political zeitgeist these days, but statements made by Tom Coburn (R-OK) at a recent townhall are puzzling. Coburn, speaking before constituents, one of whom expressed concern over jail should she reject ObamaCare, turned into a mouthpiece of fawning progressivism.
Coburn is conservative. According to his web-site:
Dr. Coburn's priorities in the Senate include reducing wasteful spending, protecting your liberty, balancing the budget, improving health care access and affordability, protecting the sanctity of all human life - including the unborn - and representing traditional Oklahoma values.
Seems clear. Not so clear, however, are his defense of Pelosi and his stab at Fox News. Said Coburn of the speaker:
"She's a nice lady." (Boos and hisses) "Come on, she's nice. How many of you have met her? ..."

Until they outlaw campaign finance reform, it will never happen. Ross Perot was as close as we will get and he had to finance his own campaign. So unless Bill Gates decides to become a bona fide Tea Party Conservative, we are likely stuck with the Coburns and Palins and Country Club billionaire republicans as our best hope.
A selection organization and system rather than a political party?
precinct, county, region, state, national region, national
And then the issue becomes how to keep it from becoming a party.
Actually that is what the Electoral College was all about. Local people would elect people they thought were like minded and all those like minded people would go to the electoral college and find someone who would make a good president. Then they decided to have direct elections of candidates who would choose their own electors. It went from a bottom up electoral process to a top down.
And then the issue becomes how to keep it from becoming a party.
I don't think it is possible unless we revert back to the original electoral scheme.
Excellent, P-M.
Food for reflection.
All a third party will do is keep the Rats in power. If we don't get the congress back and the Presidency by 2012 it will be to late to turn this around.
I don't like the rino Kirk in IL. I'm stuck with running for Senate against a mob controlled Rat Giannolius. If I go 3rd party the Rats keep the seat and he votes for Reid to be the majority leader. I supported the conservative in the primary.
I give my donations to Senateconservatives.com set up by Sen DeMint. The key is to get real conservatives elected. A 3rd party gets Rats elected.
So if we are stuck with a system that's rigged to only allow two parties we need to control the purse strings of one of them.
If that ever happens it will be the party on the right that has their purse strings controlled... with a little help from our friends like McCain.
Coburn are you senile? pelousi is not nice...SHE’S SHREDDING THE CONSTITUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nonsense, what this nation needs is for its men to sack DC, send them home or hang them.
Much too late for an election or two to change things.
At one time, Coburn was the best best to continue the Helms legacy, but he lacks the fire in the belly. Lugar has always been an embarrassment, but IN doesn’t know.
They don’t support baby killing either.
And Coburn's view is why so often Republicans are beaten by the Democrats, they can't see evil in their actions.
I know Coburn personally - he delivered two of our grandchildren - and I think I can safely say he is a moderate conservative. He is popular in Oklahoma.
No doubt, he is personally a fine man.
He’s coming up on O’Reilly.
