A world without nuclear weapons is the vision, no matter whose. I support our President and applaud his efforts.
Obama got a Nobel Peace Prize for this- its all good.
Well, I DO think that we need his vision! Any and all efforts to bring about a world without nuclear weapons are important!
Unless Israel stops it's nuclear weapons program, no one on earth will feel safe. We call for Iran to stop it's nuclear program, while Israel keep making hundreds of nuclear weapns!!!
If the UN was the central government and EACH and Every country was represented, as each state in the U.S. is. Then all things would be settled in courts and the fear and need for weapons would become obsolete.
We have banned poison gas and biological weapons. What makes nuclear weapons special, apart from the politics of their owners? Truly, we have been able to annihilate the species for at least the past hundred years. In every other case, the world has reacted with a simple and absolute ban. Anything that does not further such an approach for nuclear weapons is purely evil. Let us get this done!
Obama pledged not to launch a nuclear strike against a non-nuclear state that complies with NPT. Israel is a nuclear state which does not comply with NPT. The State Department only mentioned Iran and North Korea, though.
I am sure that they will do a better job than our WW II, known as the Greatest Generation, although they probably saved civilization as we know it by dropping the first nuclear bombs. At least it put an end to the struggle, point blank. But we know now that it can put an end to the planet if the arsenals already available are detonated. So hopefully they will never use the weapons in fact; just hold them as a deterrent.
I do not think the next generation will do very well with helping move toward a nuclear-free world until President Obama persuades India, Israel and Pakistan to sign on to the nuclear NPT.
Great, if they grow up as a peaceful nation and not as war-mongers! Also need to ensure the next generation is educated in history, geography, math, science and English as we are now the 24th least educated nation in the world!

They are individual responses praising HolyO—so I’m sure being liberals they all attended Ivy League schools, LOL.

Here's the question these people are responding to on Facebook:
U.S. Department of State: Engaging the Community on Foreign Affairs What are your thoughts on the next generation's role in fulfilling President Obama's vision of a world without nuclear weapons?
On second thought, could be a bunch of Ellie Lights. Wish there was a way to trace origin of responses like you can emails! ;-)

David Marshall: My God, the naievete in this room. Let's just ban crime...make it illegal. There. Done. Let's ban drugs too. Now we have nothing but flowers and unicorns. Let's just ban handguns like big cities did. How did that work out? Meanwhile, a billion people are plotting our demise, nuclear materials and scientists can be bought on the black market, and the clock ticks closer to midnight. You can't un-invent tons of nuclear material and knowledge. All we can do is to possess certain nuclear retaliation, which is what we've always done. I have no problem with reducing our stockpiles, getting rid of the older, maintenance-intensive ones, and developing new ones. We just can't let down our guard. I guarantee that a nuclear-free America will not equal a nuclear-free world. Think. Listen to Ahmadi-Nejad and Il. And yes, there is still the Name That No One Must Speak, radical Islamism. They all dream all night of driving a nuke right into an American city or port. Don't delude yourselves that we have somehow achieved world peace.

I don't know why we even need to bother with this new nuclear plan. Ever since the Kellogg-Briand Pact was signed by the US, Japan, German, Italy and others in 1928 the world has been at peace realizing that pieces of paper actually do provide security.

Yes, but only chump states and fish steaks enjoy the protection of paper envelopes. The rest: into the oven. Sauce on you.
