Your analogy using "Pointe-Du-Hoc" was, IMO, not applicable because the Rangers were fulfilling their assigned mission. Similarly, Lafkin's assigned mission is to deploy and provide medical services.
You asked me if I had served to which I replied no but have a brother that did, then went on to explain I understood the difference of military vs. civilian.
My analogy that you are referring to may not have been perfect in your eyes but I did contemplate that perhaps in Lafkin’s eyes he was fulfilling his duty to the Constitution.
