It had to be known. If they moved close enough to Arthur’s birth for the birthplace to be in question, then they HAD to know Arthur’s father did not live in the US for many years prior to Arthur’s birth.

Chester's father was a Baptist minister. His mother was from the US. Chester was their fifth child. Their 2nd Child was born in 1824 in Vermont, while their first was born in 1822 in Canada. Chester was born in 1829. Thus his father had been in the US for at least 5 and possibly as much as 7 years when he was born. Naturalization took 5 years.

Plus Arthur claimed his birth year as 1830, giving his father yet another year to have become naturalized. There'd be no reason to think he had not. But he had not. Arthur also claimed his father immigrated when he was 18, and had lived in the US for several years before being married, but he actually did not immigrate to Canada until he was 22 or 23, and was at least 26 before he came to the US. So, at the time Arthur was runnign for VP, it was believed his father had been in the country much longer than he actually had, but even that much shorter time was still enough to have been naturalized before Chester was born.

The supposed foreign birth was a red herring, and distracted the public, the reporters and even the opposition, from examining his father's citizenship status.

And of course his father was know to be a citzen at some point, which he was.

The only jobs for which one must be a natural born citizen are president and vice president. We will find out if our judicial system still respects the Constitution. It is clear that they have been in no hurry to take on this explosive issue. For what it is worth this is one of the few domains of the law in which the supreme court has original jurisdiction, meaning it is not constrained to be the final appeals court for matters which directly involve constitutional interpretation.

It is clear that Justice Ginsberg needs to do some legal research judging by her comments about natural born citizenship in a recent case (she was surprised to learn that her grandchildren born in France would not be eligible to run for president). I hope all the justices are taking the time to read Mario Apuzzo and Leo Donofrio essays, and the wonderful work by U. of Conn law students at http://undeadrevolution.wordpress.com about the intent of our framers, and their legal analysis of the cases through 1936, Perkins v. Elg, which ALL confirm the Vattel definition.

At that point, those with British sympathies had mostly moved to Canada or England, per the terms of the treaty ending the War of Independence, and the UK agreed to not consider such persons as wished to stay in the US as British Subjects, even though they had been (reneged on that though, leading to the War of 1812). But prior to then, there was no United States to have been born in. Sure there were British North American colonies, including Canada, but no United States.

If for some reason the US were ever to expel Obama, the UK would be the next logical place for him to seek residency as the UK would always welcome him because of his deceased father's former status.

Under the current Kenyan Constitution, he could reinstate his Kenyan citizenship gained after Dec. 12, 1963.

The same is true for Indonesia, as they now allow Dual Citizenship post-2006. They did NOT honor Dual Citizenship when he was an Indonesian citizen from circa 1966 to 1971, a five-year period which is theoretically a problem in a suit against Obama under Indonesian law there at the time ... but otherwise a distraction from his status of being born as a British subject in the US or elsewhere.

Well Parsi ... when material is well-researched using historically-accurate references and perspective, it will be better received and withstand scrutiny better than half-baked legal gobbledygook slapped together by a Progressive legal assistant from Phoenix or a Bull-Moose Liberal attorney from Atlanta — and they know who they are!

As their quiver is empty and they can only re-use spent arrows pulled out from their bleeding backsides, I will accept it as proof that they are all out of original and otherwise useful legal citations regarding Obama's Eligibility.

Ironically, even if Obama IS telling the truth about his so-called birth certificate (very unlikely), most people will reject it on face value because of the Deception and Corruption that surrounds him and his Democratic Congress.

They've let this go on too long hoping the obots in the bloggosphere would help it fade away. Perceptions have long since crystallized, and it's more reasonable to Distrust Obama than to Trust him.
