Majority of state GOP chairs sign letter supporting Steele
Washington Post ^ | April 9, 2010 | Amy Gardner

A majority of state Republican Party chairs have signed a letter supporting Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele, citing his accomplishments in the post.

"The charge of any national chairman is to raise money and win elections," the letter said, signed by 29 state committees plus Guam and the District. "With over $100 million raised, victories in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts, and victories in 29 of 37 special elections, Michael Steele has demonstrated that under his chairmanship the RNC has the ability, focus, and drive to lead Republicans to a sweeping victory in November."

It's time to get past the tempest in a teapot, and not allow the Dems to con the Republicans into fighting amongst themselves and focus on winning in 2010.

I also highly, very highly recommend watching Newt Gingrich's speech at the SRLC, whether you are a Newt fan or not.

Here is the SRCL video day 1

Newt's speech starts at around 1 hr 10 min.

In that statement is one of the reasons I am no longer a republican.

Great...now these GOP state chairs will make Steele an issue for Dems to hammer away on.

Get rid of Steele now, and he is not an issue in the fall. Keep Steele, and it will hurt GOP candidates....especially those who emphasize family values and Christian values. It would be hard to camapaign on family and religious values when the “Ron Jeremy of the GOP” is still running the party

It seems the GOP is as determined to self destruct as the Democrats.

That headline is not surprising. It is why the Republican party needs to be infiltrated and taken over from the precinct level up by conservatives.

I want the republicans to fall. A phoenix cannot rise from the ashes until there are ashes. The party still has a lontg way to go to return to it’s “libertarian” roots.

I think their response now is appropriate. If Steele is reelected in January, I’ll be beyond disgusted.

You can still put the pressure and hopefully the understanding in these GOP reps. You cant and we will
surely loose if we.....throw the babe out with the bath water. That would be a huge mistake.

The “can’t we all get along” shtick is what brought the “big tent” GOP to the point of compromising on its conservative principles, and a milquetoast candidate like McCain. It’s simply a way to tell those that disagree with the party to shut up and do what they say.

What makes you think that conservatives fighting for the heart of the GOP are part of a Dem con?

“The charge of any national chairman is to raise money and win elections,”

They said it not me. Steele said a while back that he didn’t think we could take back the House.

While he’s there this check book is closed.

You would be worse if you saw Pelosi, Reid, Durbin retain power...I know and can see they are hoping our party divides...the tea party or ultra conservatives...need to send a strong message to Steele and others who dont quite get it when we say we want conservatives in but you have to remember....Representatives are supposed to represent their constituents not all GOP are ultra conservative. but they are fiscally conservative or socially conservative and they will still need to be part of our tapestry or else the progressives WILL!

“We need to focus on elections,” Jones said. “We need to put winning elections as the most important thing and take personalities out of this and move forward.”

I saw a Dem strategist on Fox News the other day — the discussion was the Dem tax and spend approach to government. The Dem strategist was pointing fingers that the Republicans spend money “in bondage themed clubs”, as if Republicans had been spending tax-payer money on that. The Dems are pulling out all the stops to attack Republicans, and if the Republicans response is self-flaggellation, instead of unity, the Dems will drive who the Republican leaders should be and how do you think that will turn out?
