Pope willing to meet sex abuse victims again: Vatican

VATICAN CITY: Pope Benedict XVI is "available for new meetings" with victims of sex abuse by priests, Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told Vatican Radio on Friday.

"The Roman Catholic Church must cooperate with police and the judiciary on child abuse by priests as "the only way to regain trust," Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said.

Speaking on Vatican Radio, Lombardi said that, "Apart from the attention we must pay to the victims, we must pursue cooperation with the relevant civilian judicial and penal authorities, in line with the legal and other situations in each country."

"This is the only way to restore a climate of justice and full confidence in the institution of the Church," he added.

The Church has been shaken by a whole series of scandals involving paedophile priests in various countries, amid criticism that it protected guilty clergy instead of handing them over to be tried.

Thanks you TSgt, Pope Benedict XVI is under fire from critics who say he was part of a shameful culture of denial it seems, by the posts here, that culture invades the pews too.

They all talk about lies and slander as they swallow, with the eagerness of nestlings, the convoluted morsels of gobbledygook that in every instance passes over the real problem of Ratzinger’s culpability. They are fed nonsense and in some cases lies from the Vatican spokesmen to make the flock, bless their hearts, once again feel comfortable in the rotting, decaying nest of religious inanity.

The main thrust of the article in the NY Times tying Ratzinger to the case of the 200 deaf boys is the 8-month delay in even responding to the letter or rather two letters of the bishop. Eight months in which he did absolutely nothing.

Further, is there anyone, outside of a cult, that would sit on information that a pedophile in your company or group had molested 200 handicapped deaf children for eight months and fail even to acknowledge the letters? That is what Ratzinger, Grand Inquisitor, at the time did.

If any one of these gentlemen can produce any denial of such I will be much obliged, as I have never seen anything that addresses that fact.

A similar case, now on Pope Benedict watch echoes the one in Italy, where 67 deaf men and women accused two dozen priests of raping and molesting children for years. Only now — a year (12 months) after the Italian case became public is the Vatican directing the diocese to interview the victims to hear their testimony about the accusations.

Would I be slandering if I suggested there is a pattern here under Ratzinger. People with absolutely no concern or empathy to what would horrify normal people are known as psychopaths. This tendency, tragically has been on display by Vatican officials on several occasions during this saga. Even the reason for this thread is in response to the lack of empathy for the victims.

With the vigorous defense of the hierarchy, the men in dresses, and the total unconcern for the thousands of children, world wide, who were violated, one would easily believe that not only is the church infested with homosexuals but psychopaths too.

Truly, as chief exorcist of the Vatican, the Rev. Gabriele Amorth was quoted as saying “the Devil is at work inside the Vatican,” and that “when one speaks of ‘the smoke of Satan’ in the holy rooms, it is all true—including these latest stories of violence and pedophilia.” This can perhaps be taken as confirmation that something horrible has indeed been going on in the holy precincts...”

Now ladies and gentlemen post the lies and slanders that I have written that I defend each and every one or peradventure humbly apologize.

There's a slander in post 1 of this thread. You claim that Pope Benedict is only "acting" concerned.

Retract that.

The whole reason for a second meeting was his lack of empathy and if you couple that with two occasion of paying no attention to deaf boys in two countries for 8 months in one case and a year in another - a reasonable person would conclude that he could not care less about the victims, his main focus was on protecting the church.

And if you throw in his 2001 letter about secrecy you will get the picture.

What is slander to you could be simple deduction to others.

Antoninus,

Why haven't you been using your banner? Was it not effective?
