Bart Stupak to Retire
CBS News Political Hotsheet ^ | April 9, 2010 | Stephanie Condon

Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak, the congressman who led anti-abortion rights Democrats in the House during health care negotiations, will retire this year, CBS News has learned. He is expected to announce his plans later this morning.

Had Stupak sought re-election, he would have faced challengers from both the left and the right backed by interest groups angered by Stupak's health care vote.

Stupak negotiated with Democratic leaders down to the eleventh hour for stricter abortion language in the health care bill, but he ultimately voted for it after President Obama agreed to sign an executive order assuring the new laws will keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortions.

That prompted the conservative Tea Party Express to launch a $250,000 ad campaign against Stupak this week. The group also scheduled a handful of stops on its bus tour in Stupak's district.

On the left, the abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America has been working to defeat Stupak and instead elect his Democratic primary challenger Connie Saltonstall.

Like many other congressmen, Stupak received violent threats from citizens after his health care vote. However, the Michigan Democrat came under particularly intense scrutiny because of his role in the abortion debate.

Bart,
may you repent of your decision to condemn millions of babies to death. Were you ever really pro life, or was that just the schtick you used to get elected in a conservative district???

Good news. If the GOP is smart, we can take this seat back after 20 years.

“Our fate was sealed many decades ago when we allowed governance to gradually become a lucrative full-time, lifelong career.”

TRUE!

But also, when we allowed civil SERVANTS to establish unions to wrench more money out of the people! What is the difference between the mafia enforcer threatening to break your legs if you don’t pay for “protection” and the local police union threatening to strike if you don’t raise their pay or extend them better benefits? One is legal!

There is a problem here! And it isn’t going away until we outlaw civil servant unions! They are hoarding over the taxpayers and sucking them dry!

In other words, they have choked the life out of the golden goose!

My thoughts exactly. If Stupak has any real faith left, it has to be eating at him. Judas suffered in agony for the very short remainder of his life.

For these jackass party politians to vote then run gives proof, without a doubt, that they never represented thier district and constituents.

Rulers NOT Representatives

The game here will be to nom a Dem to his seat who will say, “Oh, no, I would have NEVER voted for Obamacare, oh, no, no way...” and then count on the stupidity of the average American dolt to buy it. Sadly, they usually do.
(And it worked for Stupak on the Life issue.)

It was the latter. I have noticed how these “blue dog” dems always tout being “pro-life” and “fiscally conservative” in campaigns, interviews, and the House floor. YET, when the going gets tough, these “principals” are the FIRST things these dems throw under the bus. I always happens.

There is a special place in hell for these frauds.

Can the Republicans strip him of his pension next year?

Just as I predicted. Retiring gets him more bennies than losing an election. I think he can become a lobbyist immediately. We'll see more of this as we get closer to November. The only downside is possible loss of GOP momentum, i.e., nobody to vote against.

Stuck on Stupak!

Getting a cushy job in the administration?

They may have promised him something like that, but they'll give him nothing.

They're done with him, like last night's hooker. If he doesn't like it, he can write a letter to his congressman.

Yeah, and I bet they won’t report that the ‘violent threats’ came for his own colleagues/LSDers (leftists/loony toons/statists/demoncrats) because he wasn’t STRONGER in his support for FREE abortions for EVERYONE for ANY reason whatsoever!! >:-(

iniquity

What a sad word. I was just reading about Levi in Malachi 2:6 and his lack of iniquity. It made me think if the wicked corrupt leaders we currently have.

in·iq·ui·ty (-nkw-t)
n. pl. in·iq·ui·ties
1. Gross immorality or injustice; wickedness.
2. A grossly immoral act; a sin.

[Middle English iniquite, from Old French, from Latin inquits, from inquus, unjust, harmful : in-, not; see in-1 + aequus, equal.]

Stupak really stumbled.

Nothing that would have to be voted on by the US Senate. Maybe a recess appointment to be ambassador of some island group way out in the South Pacific. Or perhaps Barky's abortion czar, after Barky quietly revokes the abortion EO.
