No Social Security COLA Increase in 2010....or in 2011
Dougherty, Leventhal & Price, LLP ^ | Tom Cummings

Posted on 04/08/2010 11:50:12 PM PDT by T.L.Sink

For the first time in 35 years the 57 million Americans who were forced to contribute to SS by compulsory wage withholdings will receive no cost of living increase. In other words, a pay CUT. Obama has put the United States into fiscal insolvency with record national deficits and a national debt that is in the high trillions. The next couple generations are already in hock and will be lucky if they can even fund the INTEREST on this out-of-control debt. It's ironic that he helped to hasten the bankruptcy of one entitlement, Social Security, by creating another massive unfunded liability, the socialist health care entitlement. But, as Margaret Thatcher once said, "Socialism always fails because it eventually runs out of other people's money." We're there now.

On top of that, $500 billion was cut from Medicare (Baucus called it a “Medicare savings”), and 2 million seniors will be completely cutoff from Medicare Part D (the prescription drug program) in 2011.

For the people living on $500.00 SS, inflation loss is really going to hurt them.

Essentially what Democrats are attempting to do is rob from Social Security to pay down the debt that Obozo has run up in his first year in office. Stealing from seniors and those who are disabled and poor and looking to retire in the near future. This is the new compassion, Democrat style.

I wish he would slash it to $0.00, but this is more of a paperwork shuffle than a cut, as that money being rearranged to seemingly pay for the other types of socialism run amok like Roosevelt’s ponzi scheme.

The GOP should campaign on a new policy:
All government employees (including politicians) subject to same changes as SS.

If they raise our retirement age, all state/local/federal workers are subjected to the same later age.

If they cut COLAs, government workers get no COLA on their salaries or pensions.

When they raise SS/Medicare taxes, gov’t employees must contribute more to their own retirements.

If they implement means testing, higher pensioned gov’t retirees get cut, too.

My industry and its clients are struggling with costs, too.

So my co-workers and I have had salary frozen for several years and increasing deductibles and co-pays on our medical coverage. Many of our clients have cur back sharply on plant improvements, staff, and even negotiated pay freezes or givebacks with their union employees.

Why should any government worker from President , Congress, and judges down to the local dogcatcher be immune to similar salary adjustments?

In the meantime, all Federal and many State Government workers get pay raises and better benefits.

The objective is to eventually have everyone working for the Government.
