Republican Rep. Frank LoBiondo (N.J.) received heavy criticism from a Tea Party activist at a recent town hall meeting in his district.
In a YouTube video, the eighth-term congressman is grilled on his knowledge of the Constitution after he misstates the content of Article I Section I of the document.
The man who criticizes LoBiondo's knowledge of the document is donning a "Don't Tread on Me" t-shirt, a Revolutionary War slogan popular among Tea Party activists.

I like this because it blunts the criticism that the Tea Parties are essentially a stealth Republican tactic to oppose Obama. From what I can see, Tea Party folks don’t hold Republicans in much higher esteem than Democrats and giving them both an earful only helps them with independents and even some centrist Democrats who reject the thought of supporting Republicans but see events like this as a way to get involved in a non-partisan way.
Sadly, many of the key motivations of Tea Party members are not well understood by members of either party and we need occasional reminders to the Republicans that they don’t own us any more than the Democrats do and they will need to be bound to constitutional issues to curry favor with us. We need to hold both parties’ feet to the fire and keep the heat on them both.
Yeah!
Nail these politicians to the wall, America!
THAT’S what I’m talking about!
If they can’t do their job then drag the idiots out into the town square and HUMILIATE them!
If we are to get this country back on track we MUST demand AT LEAST THE BASICS from those that will represent us!
His HUMILIATION or YOUR FREEDOM!
This is no game.
Screw the GOP, screw the Republicans and Democrats, this is about OUR COUNTRY!
Excellent job!
I bet this disgrace of a congressman goes home and beefs-up on the constitution now.
Or, he’ll whine about the guy being “out of order.” The only thing out of order was congressman’s failing to fully understand that which he has taken an oath to uphold.
Well done!
This absolutely should be done to all representatives.
This MUST be asked of all candidates.
How can we expect them to uphold the Constitution if they don’t have the foggiest idea what it says? How can we elect illiterates? Why are not more Americans as well-versed in the Constitution as this young man is?
Maybe they should have to take the Citizenship exam to qualify for office. New citizens applicants have to know more than congress critters.
That young man has memorized the Constitution and understands what it means. Very impressive.
He has opened up a new understanding of the meaning of ‘representative’. A representative represents the people, of course. But represents them in what? In defending the Constitution as a protective document, to protect the people from an overreaching federal government. That means the federal government executive branch, because that is the only branch that has police powers.
That is, except for the Capitol Police, who can detain and arrest you for bad behavior in the capitol building and certain other federal buildings, that is true.
That is far more important than representing us by voting for or against bills as we ask them to. It’s far more important than voting to give the people goodies like new airports, bike paths and unemployment checks.
TO DEFEND US LEGISLATIVELY FROM TYRANNY.
Geez, Congressman...my wife can name the five freedoms guaranteed to us by the First Amendment, and YOU can’t name ONE????
...or to all of those fresh new faces looking to take advantage of voter anger during the upcoming primaries. There COULD be an 'unannounced quiz' at ANY moment...
Republicans can’t be let off the hook for this country’s problems.
BFL
What I can’t believe is that no one was cheering him on.
