Glenn Beck and radio pals Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere rattled down the list of potential Republican nominees for President in 2012 this morning, and they had some bad news for the Tea Party movement: Sarah Palin probably wont run, Ron Paul is still and long shot, and Mitt Romney, as of now, is the GOPs best bet.
While Gray and Burguiere are harsh to most of the candidates, Beck spreads the love around. He tells his co-hosts that he likes Palin but doesnt think she will run, Bobby Jindal but doesnt think he has the charisma, and Congressman Paul but doesnt think America is ready for him. Then, at the bottom of the pile, he finds Mitt Romney:
"I have to tell you that Mitt Romney could be the only guy that could win, and I dont know if he could because I think that Americans are going to be I mean, this country is going to be in deep trouble by 2012, and the next term, if its not decided this term, the next term will decide our fate. Then I hope that Americans are ready for an adult and are ready for hard news."
Its a strange, possibly sad conclusion from someone who had called Romney out for flirting with socialism, but ultimately Beck was trying to determine who could win, not who he thought should. If Beck was playing process of elimination, which he clearly was, its hard to refute his conclusion that Romney is the least likely candidate to crash and burn in a general election, if only for being a conservative from the most liberal state of America and having moderate successes like universal health care under his belt. Or and this one is for you conspiracy theorists out there maybe Beck is intentionally downplaying the Republican candidates ability to success so as to clear the brush and become the reluctant right-wing candidate by default. After all, he is the second-most popular human being in America. (Link to a Harris poll: Glenn Beck is the second most popular television personality in America second only to Oprah Winfrey.)
Listen to the segment below:
Beck thinks Romney might be able to win..........based on what?

The only thing I can see... Romney might appeal to some of the left who are turned off by Obama but they would never vote for Palin?
LOLOL!
K. Sorry to disrupt your Mormon-phobic fear-mongering with any solid facts.
Facts are so horribly black and white.
Anyway, I'm sure you're right. It's a Mormon conspiracy to take over the world.
I listened to this and my read is Glenn knows Sarah is running and completely avoided talking about her....
that is my read....the way they dismissed her, (they were talking about speakers at SRLC) made one feel they would have more to say but they WANTED to not draw any attention to her
Yep. Utah voted 92% for Romney.
I disagree. In my opinion, Romney is the one who is starting to fade fast. The book signing tour, which was supposed to spark his presidential run hasn't caught fire. He couldn't fill a highly promoted 4,400 seat venue that was highly promoted in Salt Lake City Utah. Palin filled an 11,000 seat venue in the liberal bastion of MSP twice yesterday.
Whoever Romney's primary opponents are, they are going to have a ball bringing up his many flip-flops and RomneyCare.
Mitt spent $40MM of his own money in 2008 and couldn't defeat McCain. In 2012, the primary competition will be much tougher than McCain.
Why possibly would you have the strong, charismatic and seasoned leader in Palin run number two to Jindal—who isn’t natural born, BTW? Jindal couldn’t win the primaries unless he already had Palin attached to his hip and I just don’t see the point. Would he have his VP give all of his state of the union speeches? Handle his press conferences? Do his media interviews?
I hope there weren't any nasty implications directed at me in your posting that. These days on FR, you just have to ask.
No a vote for Romney is a vote for damned liberal.
That needs amendment: Real leaders lead the way and fight with the Fighters.
Discarding Palin, then following with putting Romney up front as the only one that could win and then adding this?
“Then I hope that Americans are ready for an adult and are ready for hard news.”
That is a low key sales pitch for the “adult” leadership and “hard news” of a Mitt Romney.
You notice that he offered no distractions from the Romney focus, no Palin, no anyone else.
After all, it's not like he's helping the conservative movement or anything.
Some conservatives seriously need to get it straight in their heads who their friends are and quit attacking them.
All true.
I’m with you on that.
I can't stand screechy, condescending little posters, especially those who love their CAPSLOCK buttons. And we sure seem to have our share of them around here.
Then, they get all bent out of shape when you don't knuckle under to their little directives. LOL
I will not vote for Romney. Not now, not then, not ever.
OMGoodness, that is soooooo funny.
Thats fine Glenn. You push that RINO and Ill never give your show one more second of my time.
Our job is to DEFEAT the RINO wing of the party, which is as responsible for this mess today as the rats.
Palin is building strength lately, Romney is becoming a more difficult sale for primary voters.
I would have no problem with a Mormon who is consistently conservative.

Neither would I, but I would have to admit I would have difficulty trusting them, I’ve had far too many lie to me.
