Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D.-Fla.) is insisting that the new health care law she voted for last month does not mandate that individuals buy health insurance, despite language in the law that plainly says otherwise.
At an April 5 town hall meeting in Fort Lauderdale (see video below), a constituent asked Wasserman Shultz where the Constitution authorized Congress to mandate that individuals buy health insurance. She responded that the new health care law did not require individuals to buy health insurance.

And she’s the House Whip? Bet she’s never read the bill - believes what Nazi Pelozi tells her.
If you can buy into the notion that giving money to someone who does not pay taxes is a “tac cut,” then this one’s easy.
No wonder they live here and not in Israel.
Be smart. She is revealing their court strategy.
Be smart and well-informed.

She obviously has not read the bill. I have read the bill. She’s ignorant at best.
It seems to me that what she said is that you don’t have to purchase health insurance, but that if you don’t, you will be placed in a “different tax category”. She did not say what that means, but my brain tells me that your taxes will increase. There may be some formula they have for increasing your taxes for not having health insurance.
Did anyone else get that—or am I imagining here? LOL!
Debbie is one toke over the line, Sweet Jesus.
an enemy of the USA
Sargeant Wasserman Schultz?
Just like you'll be categorized when you're a GM purchaser versus a Ford purchaser....
There are a lot of reasons to dislike Wasserman-Schultz, this isn’t one of them. You have a choice. Under the new law you either purchase coverage that meets the requirements or you pay a penalty/fee/assessment (name it whatever you want). If you had no choice it would be an entirely different issue - and it would be struck down. The challenges that are generating a lot of hot air right now which are based on a claim of an unconstitutional mandate will fail.
Last year - in the status quo ante of Health Care Reform - you were paying for uncompensated care at hospitals and clinics across the country. Either via taxes or increased premiums for private pay health insurance to implicitly compensate for medical care provided to those who refuse to pay/fail to pay/choose not to pay.
Where I would criticize Wasserman-Schultz is that she will not get behind efforts to control uncompensated care - the free-riders in our society. You can require coverage (or, apply the penalty) but that will not eliminate the illegal alien showing up in the emergency room and running up a multimillion dollar tab at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, for example. That kind of stuff has to stop. She talks the talk about stropping free rider behavior - but she will not walk the walk.
READ THE BILL!!
