My gut reaction upon reading it was, Yep, probably would have. They dont call him Benedict Arlen for nothing. But would he really have crossed the aisle on this? I know, I know, he voted for the stimulus, but so did Snowe and Collins and even they were afraid to buck the party line on an issue that made the base as red hot as ObamaCare. And unlike Specter, theyre not facing reelection this year. Would a guy whos cynical and opportunistic enough to switch parties in the interest of saving his own ass have been cynical and opportunistic enough to vote against a bill purely in the interests of saving his own ass?
Sure. Which means, even here, hes lying:
My vote would have been the same, Specter said in response to reader questions in a video series with the Montgomery County Times Herald. As you know from my record, I frequently crossed party lines when I was on the other side of the aisle.
Specter said his record in the past was consistent on healthcare, pointing to his work on funding the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and his vote in favor of the State Childrens Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), among other things, as examples.

Specter was never a Republican.
A complete waste of radiation and/or chemotherapy in my opinion.
A Republican? Who knew?
Bye-bye Arlen. He’s set to self-destruct mode apparently.
“Specter: I would have voted for O-Care even if I was still a Republican”
— — —
And I would vote against you even if you were a Republican.
Can’t wait till he’s ‘retired’ in November.
I was thinking more like a waste of skin.
I love it when a guy self destructs.
So he would STILL have been a horrible man—Dem OR Republican...he just said so.
I am not from his ‘neck of the woods’ or district he was first elected to Congress from ... however I know he was a Dem (way back when) and I believe he switched to Republican as a means of getting elected (initially).
Now the tables are reversing, in Pennsylvania, and I think he again has gotten positioned himself for what he sees as his continued election to a job he now believes is ‘his’.
No doubt....
That’s why you won’t be re-elected, Judas Isacariot.
He is so stoopid!
‘Would a guy whos cynical and opportunistic enough to switch parties in the interest of saving his own ass have been cynical and opportunistic enough to vote against a bill purely in the interests of saving his own ass?’
Yup. And our officials wonder why they’re held in utter contempt by America. Lunacy.
I’m familiar with Specter’s history in Philadelphia. He actually did some good things and honestly tried to get rid of corruption. He is a “moderate” who never was conservative. In that sense I’ve never been mad at him for taking the positions he does. He’s never pretended to be anything else. And he has done good in the Senate—remember him taking down Anita Hill. Having said all that, we live in a different world where the Republican Party no longer can afford to elect economic liberals. We have to cut spending. Arlen needs to be replaced.
In his mind he thinks this counts, LOL!!
This stupid, traitor creep needs to be slapped out of his Senate seat.
Is it November yet?
