I have been engaged in an ongoing debate with a liberal friend of mine ever since Obama became president. The current thread is on health care, specifically my questioning the legitimacy of the Federal Government forcing every American to buy health insurance. Below is a copy of her last email to me commenting my my previous email to her. I have noted who's comments are who's.
Her:
Anyway, we're forced into buying auto insurance, if you want to drive. And for most people driving is a necessity. Before you can buy a house, you have to have proof of insurance (this is to protect the bank, not you
Me:
You finally took the bait. This is another example of the illogical logic of liberalism. Your analogy is wrong on many levels.
1. I am not forced to buy a car nor am I forced to buy a house.
Her:
Bait?! ROFL! Yes you are forced to pay for the insurance. Let's say you rent. Who owns the building? THEY are the ones forced to buy insurance. Don't buy a car? Fine! Ride the bus. Think they aren't forced to buy insurance? They are, and the cost of those insurance policies gets passed on to YOU.
Me:
2. The state in which I lives sets the laws that I must abide by to drive on public roads (that rascally 10th amendment again) I have to have a valid driver's license issued by the state in which I live and many states (not all) requires car insurance.
Her:
Remember "55 to stay alive"? That was a country wide, government mandate. Ditto seat belt laws. And find me a state that doesn't require auto insurance.
Me:
In regard to a house that's part of the agreement with the lending co.
Her:
Oh if you live in a coastal or flood area, you're FORCED to buy flood insurance via FEMA. I'm not in either place but I choose to carry flood insurance. Interestingly, although it's through Hartford Flood Insurance, I still am contacted by FEMA to register it.
Me:
The Fed government has little if anything to do with either apart from interstate commerce issues,
Her:
FEMA is part of the Fed government
Me:
The fed gov has more important responsibilities like protecting us from enemies foreign and domestic to be concerned about all of us having health insurance
Her:
Spoken like someone who's been fairly healthy all their life.
Ask her if socialist health care is so good, then why do so many people from countries with such systems come here for more expensive treatment?
You don’t have to have house insurance if you own your home.
You can’t. I have a friend I’ve known since high school, and in this one area he’s as idiotic as you can get. All the stuff The dem’s are up to he is convinced the repub’s have done and are a billion times worse.. he even said Palin was more dangerous than a terrorist.. like.. just shake your head and move on.
Liberalism is more of a psychological condition than any coherent set of political beliefs.
Eject.
Car insurance is a state issue, so it is not at all a comparison with the Federal Government forcing people to buy “health” insurance.
Obama zombies are well you know, zombies.
Ask her who will pay for the free lunches.
Then we'll get our coverage from the same people who run the DMV.
ask her when does she get her new health ID card.
For a start, you are not required to “buy insurance” in all states to drive a car on public roads (though in some states you are; I haven’t yet figured out which are which).
What is actually required is that you “demonstrate financial responsibility”. You can do this by purchasing insurance. You can also do this, if you can afford it, by posting a bond equal at least to the amount of the state’s minimum liability insurance requirements.
So No, you don’t always have to “buy insurance”.
Taking that a step further, why should Bill Gates and Warren Buffet or any member of the Walton family buy medical insurance? They can easily pay out-of-pocket for the most elaborate and expensive treatments imaginable if they get sick.
If they don’t get sick, insurance is a waste of money for them.
When you argue with an idiot....pretty soon you don’t know who is the idiot!!
Imagine yourself sitting in a hard plastic chair at the DMV, waiting for your number to be called. Quite impersonal, huh? Oh wait.. This is now our health care system.
Why does she think her neighbors must pay for her healthcare?
Does she not work? Or plan? Did she make some bad decisions in her life?
Why does she expect others to pay for her bad decisions?
Also you don’t know if your “friend” is an Axlerod drone who is paid to spout the party line.
Pick up Glenn Beck's book "Arguing With Idiots"
That's because many liberals have no regard at all for the Constitution and think it can just be made into whatever they think it should be. Ask your liberal friend what she thinks the Constitution is for and if it is even needed. I've been asking one of my liberal friends that now for months and he refuses to answer. His non-answer speaks volumes.
The only way they’ll see it is when it hits them directly in the pocketbook or the few freedoms they may actually enjoy is ripped away.
A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged...
There is really no legitimate, rational reason for government mandated health insurance. Getting a large fine, collectable by the Internal Revenue Service who can levy your pay check or your home, or going to jail for not having health care is a terrible affront to a free people. These young liberals have been raised in an entitlement generation, hence they believe everything they desire is a "right". Once they begin paying the real price for this 'cheaper' health insurance through higher taxation, and once they experience a health care system modeled after their Dept. of Motor Vehicle system they'll start to "get it". Of course then it's far too late.
