California greenhouse gas law still has majority support, Field Poll finds

The state's controversial global warming law still has the support of a majority of Californians despite growing doubts about its potential impact on the economy, according to a Field Poll released Tuesday.

The poll shows 58 percent of registered voters support Assembly Bill 32, which will require significant reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions. The poll was commissioned by Next 10, a San Francisco nonprofit group that supports green technology and reducing gases blamed for global warming.

Next 10 released the survey as AB 32 is essentially fighting for its life; a conservative group, bankrolled by Texas oil companies, is pushing a ballot initiative to delay the law's implementation until the economy recovers.

This was first time the Field organization asked Californians specifically about AB 32. But some slippage in support for the ideas behind AB 32 was revealed in a companion question that's been asked in previous years.

Asked about global warming and the economy, 69 percent of those surveyed said they believe the state can reduce greenhouse gases "and expand jobs and economic prosperity at the same time."

That was down from 74 percent in 2008 and 83 percent in 2007.

Poll director Mark DiCamillo said the diminished support reflects anxiety over the economy. In 2007, when support for the law was higher, "people were bolder in venturing into new kinds of policies," he said in an interview

Has a state ever been kicked out of the union? The people there are beyond hope. It should be quaranteened to stop the spread of the mental disease.

After having lived in CA for the past 30 years, I am still in search for a Field poll that is accurate. Nothing but left wing Pelosi (BS) from Mr. Field and his polling crew.

“the support of a majority of Californians”

With all respect to California Freepers, it’s the majority of Californians, following Hollywood’s lead, that has all but destroyed that state.

"California greenhouse gas law still has majority support, Field Poll finds."

Yeah, in California. I'll bet fisting still has a lot of support out there too.

The poll was commissioned by Next 10, a San Francisco nonprofit group that supports green technology and reducing gases blamed for global warming.

That's all you need to know about his poll. If the voters are made aware of what damage AB32 will do to California, they will vote it down.

Please sign the petitions circulating to put a proposition on the November ballot to suspend AB32. Just Google Stop AB32 and you will find website where you can download a copy of the petition. Sign and mail it in. Get your friends and relatives to sign it. Explain to them that they have time to read up on the issue between now and November. It's important that we get the necessary signatures to qualify for the November ballot.

Dont' be fooled by this article. The debate over AB32 hasn't even been started. When people learn about how destructive AB32 is they will vote to suspend it. The forces that support AB32 (stupid & evil) are scared. They know that if this proposition is on the ballot and the issues get a fair treatment in the media it will pass.

STOP AB32

I agree, Wisconsin probably IS next. we have liberal DemoRats Gov. Doyle, and Senators Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl. Now we here today that our Republican party has picked someone to run against Sen. Russ Feingold. Dick Leinenkugel, who happens to be the Commerce Secy under our dem. ultra-left liberal, job killing Gov. Doyle. WTF?
a guy sitting with the biggest liberal and kissing his butt for the last two years is the best they can offer us for a supposedly Republican governor? That would be akin to a state electing a governor because he says he’s a Republican but happens to be married to a democrat from the Kennedy Camelot fame... Oh, yeah, I forgot. You guys already did that....yikes
