KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (Reuters) Fast food joints where soldiers wolf down burgers and pizza will soon be a thing of the past at bases in Afghanistan, as the U.S. military reminds soldiers they are at war and not in "an amusement park."
In the sprawling military base at Kandahar, the fast food outlets facing the axe include Burger King, Pizza Hut, and the U.S. chain restaurant T.G.I. Friday's that features a bar with alcohol-free margaritas and other drinks -- all set along the bustling "Boardwalk" area of the base.

The U.S. military says its beef with the burger joints is that they take up valuable resources like water, power, flight and convoy space and that cutting back on non-essentials is key to running an efficient military operation.

Warning that concessions like Orange Julius, Dairy Queen and Military Car Sales were also on the exit list, Hall said less-obvious changes were coming too -- including fewer canned and bottled goods coming into the country as well as fewer first-run movie showings and some entertainment programs.

This is purely to demoralize.
I suspect contract obligations will delay implementation of this BS
Bush wasnt much better

By the order of Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, the International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, is shutting down most of these reminders of home.
"This is a war zone - not an amusement park," Command Sgt. Maj. Michael T. Hall recently wrote on the ISAF blog.
Please note that Sergeant Major Hall is the messenger (whether he agreees or not is irrellevant).
According to the source at a previous FR post:
General Stanley McChrystal, the former commander of Special Forces in Iraq, who runs eight miles a day, eats one meal and sleeps for only four hours a night, has given orders to close the junk food concessions on Nato bases.
This is possibly a case of Queeg Syndrome.
I shall reserve judgement.
Yep. Destroy capitalism, destroy marriage... He doesn’t just want to see America defeated, he wants every virtue America stood for, and every characteristic that distinguishes this country from other countries to be utterly wiped from the face of the earth. The man is the Devil himself.
Well, Obamao’s Regime did ban fast food in school lunch programs so in the spirit of equality, Soldiers should also forego things such items.
It’s only fair to treat them the same as school kids after all.
Have to wonder if he saw those shops and flipped and sent a rocket to McChrystal to remove them asap?
Especially after 5 tours.
Time to up the supplies via the FReeper canteen.

I guess only Obama deserves Waygu Beef.
Just damn!
Obama and his perfumed princes are doing all they can to destroy morale over there.
Let em eat $#I+ on a shingle.
Hey, I love SOS, the best meal in the messhall when I was in. As an interesting aside, my son just returned from Afghanistan and said the base at Kandahar had a lot of pouges sitting around doing nothing, so that may be the reason. I’ll have him check it out when he returns Friday. Semper Fi
Seeing the prices of a jar of chipped beef in store, I have had to forgo such luxuries.
Even Spam is getting outrageous, at $3.50 for a 12 oz can.
It's cheaper buy, and suffer with, boneless pork loins, boneless USDA Choice beef sirloin roasts, legs of lamb.
Thanks for the information.
What I hear was that it was the nato pogues laying about playing xbox.
Our Men do the heavy lifting.
"This is a war zone -- not an amusement park," Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Hall wrote in a blog earlier this year.
Personally, I think this guy is off his rocker. Seems to think that the troops gotta suffer to make war more warlike. (Maybe he'll take it to the next level and start randomly shooting his troops to have them undergo a more 'realistic' sniper training during whatever downtime they get.)
Who axed Obama to do this?
You should treat yourself to Stouffer’s creamed chipped beef once in awhile. It’s 2 or 3 bucks, you heat it in the micro, put it on a couple pieces of toast—mmmmmm, good!
