The most depressing thing about California is how far it has fallen. It once represented the pinnacle of what America was meant to be.

As a native son, I can truly attest to that. In the time that I was raised there, I don't think there was a better place on earth to be a kid.

My wife and I have four kids - all born in California. When our eldest was about nine, we could no longer ignore the handwriting on the wall. We pulled up stakes and headed to Texas, which is very similar to the California of my youth.

Reading articles like this one (and many others) validate my decision to get out.

I sure hope you didn’t take California to Texas with you. Many such emigrants do just that.
