Obama: ‘I Didn’t Really Like the White Sox Growing Up’; Can’t Name His Favorite Player (w/ Video)

Carlton Fisk, Frank “the Big Hurt” Thomas, Tom Seaver, Rich “Goose” Gossage – all names that any Chicago White Sox fan knows by heart. But today, while being interviewed by Washington Nationals booth announcers Bob Carpenter and Rob Dibble, President Barack Obama couldn’t muster up a single name.

The Commander-in-Chief, who has referred to himself a “White Sox kid” during the interview, was hard pressed to name a favorite player on a team that has been around since the late 19th century.

Obama went on to admit that growing up in Hawaii he was an Oakland Athletics fan and didn’t start to root for the White Sox until he got to Chicago and lived near the old Comiskey Park.

Video after the jump...

I also loved the Big Red Machine and went to almost every home game, but who is Rob Dibble?? What year?? Must have been after 1979.

I went to Comiskey my first time when I was 5, still remember it in detail.

The first sports autograph I ever got was of ChiSox 3B/OF Pete Ward, during BP in Yankee Stadium in about 1965. I remember it. (I also caught a baseball in Shea hit by then SF Giant Steve Whittaker.

How does this asshat not remember the name of ONE Sox player he liked?

Actually, I have it on good authority that Obama’s favorite player is Tito Landrum.

Gee whiz, I went to Atlanta Crackers games as a very young girl with my grandfather (who played baseball for GA Tech back in the teens), then the Braves after they came to town.

I followed the Yankees while I was in college in NJ.

I'm not a die-hard baseball fan, even though my office mate taught me to keep a box score and I think the DH rule is the work of the devil. But I can name a few Crackers players even though I was less than 10 years old at the time (Montag (who hit the longest home run in history - all the way to New Orleans - in a passing coal car), Mathews, McCarver), a good number of Braves, and if I sat and thought for a minute I could give you the whole infield of the Yankees for any year between 1973 and 1977.

Obama is a poseur and a bald face liar.

I hope his stepping on the foul line comes back to haunt him big time.

He probably likes Cominsky better, it sounds like a cross between Communist and Alinsky.

Obama is a poseur and a bald face liar.

He sure is. In more sane times, the voters of this country would have laughed a candidate off the stage who claimed there were 57 states, exhorted us to keep our tires inflated to help resolve high gas prices, and implored the use of a breathalyzer for a child with asthma.

Howie Carr in Boston was talking about this interview and the FR thread a couple hours ago. Hilarious. What a fraud.

Well, I surmise that his favorite Chicago White Stockings player wouldn’t be Cap Anson ;)

P.S. And yes, as a Canadian interested in baseball history I know that the Chicago White Stockings of the 19th century are the forerunners of today’s Chicago Cubs!

What a tool.

I grew up a Dodger fan and can rattle off all my faves. I still have all the Dodger yearbooks from my fandom years.

I understand he threw like a little girl yet again and was roundly booed. Good!

Remember the famous line uttered by Foghorn Leghorn?

“There is something just eeeeesh about a boy not knowing anything about baseball”.

I would love to see ESPN tie that warner bros cartoon with the video of barqy lofting the baseball in the general direction of the plate.

Always, always, always.

With alleged president Obama, it's ALWAYS deceit!

The Great American Pastime, I suspect, means as little to Marxist Obama as our other great American ways, traditions, and culture.
