Jeff Gombosky, a lobbyist for Anheuser-Busch in Olympia, tells PubliCola he has heard a rumor that a beer tax was floated in Olympia on Friday as a revenue source to break the stalemate in Olympia. He has not seen anything official yet, however.
Gombosky said generally Anheuser-Busch does not support singling out one item or industry for taxation (the House has already dropped its proposal for a $30 million gum and candy tax and a $96 million soda pop tax, which actually resurfaced today, has been MIA in both the House and Senate budgets all session). Gombosky says he especially doesnt support the taxation of beer if revenue from the tax pays for something unrelated to alcohol programs.

Okay, I’ll be the first to say it: this government need for more money seems to be coming to a head.
The more they tax the more they spend. They have no limits. If they can get more money they just use it as seed money for their own pork projects then tax more to pay for it ... they’ve built a couple of rapid transit lines (rail) in Seattle that hardly anyone uses (the S.L.U.T for one) ...
I think obama may be drunk with power.
If the dems raise the taxes on beer, I may have to hops over to DC and barley beat them to death.
They need to start featuring zingers aimed at politicians as part of those clever TV ad campaigns. Like the Miller High-Life truck driver pulling up to the Governors Mansion and cleaning it out.
I miss those little “Olys.”
I’lll Killl Youuuu, I’llll killl youuuuuu!!!!!
OK, I just needed a moment.
You’ll have to use your carbon credits to buy beer.
The best place to live in Washington is close to the Idaho state line.
