RNC loses top fundraiser (over Steele)
Politico ^ | 4-5-10 | Ben Smith

Posted on 04/05/2010 11:00:38 AM PDT by STARWISE

In another serious blow to the Republican National Committee, one of its top fundraisers — and its few remaining connections to the traditional GOP donor base — has resigned a senior, unpaid position.

Former Ambassador Sam Fox, a top supporter of George W. Bush who was one of the co-chairmen of the Republican Regents — the RNC's top-level fundraising board — has left the post, two Republican sources said.

Fox, a Missouri businessman who was Bush's ambassador to Belgium, was one of the RNC's few remaining connections to the deep-pocketed Republican establishment and was viewed as the heaviest hitter among its fundraisers.

Fox didn't return a call seeking comment.

But Fox was "deeply troubled by the pattern of self-inflicted wounds and missteps," another major Republican fundraiser told me today, and had "lost confidence" in Steele.

He was also finding it harder and harder to tap fellow wealthy Republicans for the RNC, the source said.

The GOP source predicted a coming wave of high-level finance resignations amid dissatisfaction over the arrival, under an ethical cloud, of a new fundraising staffer.

I am attempting to keep you people from doing the bidding of your masters in the Washington Post and the DNC. This is a NON STORY.

Steele hasn't been effective. It's been grassroots support and Obacklash that has won many of the races, and RNC insider bullshit that lost us NY23.

Time to shut your yap.

No thank you. Steele is a mess. We need the best.

So shut your yap.

Why would Steele resign?
He’s 0bama’s man at the RNC.
He’s performing his job of destroying the Republican Party well.
The only way to get rid of him is for the RNC members to vote him out.
Just like 0bama is performing well in his job of destroying America.
If the RNC is too timid and afraid to vote out Steele, then what hope does America have to vote out 0bama?

The guys who won the elections still credit RNC help. The NY 23 was a local disaster carried out by grassroots Republicans without any help from elsewhere.

Conservatives got to it at the last minute (1 month).

3 for 3 is a good record in politics.

Why, exactly, did you imagine the WarshPost got the idea to attack Steele?

That is what has been happening. The RNC is a middleman, cut out the middleman and give to the candidates. Not to Dede Scozzafava et al.

Just go away, Michael. We have ENOUGH problems right now- you’re making them worse and your self-obsession is clearly not helping.

It’s not all about you - it’s about the GOP and what we need to do to get rid of this insane Congress in 10 and what’s his name in 12.

The reimbursement story could have happened anywhere.
Steele’s lack of leadership and November’s opportunity are the issues.

They'd also credit sunny weather, dude. But the main motivating force was the grassroots and Obacklash.

The RNC will still be able to help, just without Steele. Steele is a mess, and this race crap is just hurting the VERY group he supposedly wants to help.

Steele needs to lay low for a few weeks, then quietly resign while someone who has had the position before comes in and gets things moving again.

You might be shocked to know how many “conservatives” would not be upset to see the sex-theme restaurant thing become a daily thing and to get rid of the religious Republicans.

Mel Martinez?

He's the guy who engineered the loss to Obama.

Anything by Politico is suspect, to me anyway.

We had three terms of phony, flaccid Bush conservatism, the type that the left loves. Not my cup of tea.

The Texans, God bless them, rejected Kay Bailey Hutchinson, a Bushie heir apparent. The Bushies can read the handwriting on the wall. Their era is over.

Be afraid, Politico, be very afraid.

I like Haley Barbour. I know he’s busy, but he might could do something.

If Politico and the WarshPost agree there’s a lie afoot. Just can’t trust those people.

“Former Ambassador Sam Fox....the RNC’s top-level fundraising board — has left the post”,...

Must be....Sam Fox is a racist going against an “historic” trend.

He wants to be President. Not likely he wants to get bogged down with some job where $2000 is a big issue.

That's not even a major ticket paperroute!

I’ve known high level contributors (people responsible for $1 million+ per year) in both parties and they keep the honorary posts until they die. Fox’s resignation is evidence that the country club set has lost confidence in Steele.

2010 is the GOP’s biggest chance since 1994 and they are on the verge of blowing it because they can’t raise money.

Are you trying to suggest that the bondage club expense is made up?

Motivated by race? Get real!

We had great hopes for your leadership and many considered that you would right the listing ship that the RNC had become.

As it is, that ship is foundering under your leadership. Is raced a quality of failure? Are we not a very post racial country?

Do you intend to further alienating Republicans who spent years support the RNC and Republican candidates for years, some of us more than 25 years.

Membership and contributions have declined further under your leadership and not from a few who had decided you could possible be the greatest choice of leading, among all other possible candidate, at the time of your ascension to your current post.

Mr. Steele, you are a weak-ass idiot, rudderless and at times appear to be using your post in a rather self serving manner.

Mr. Steele you are the only who arose this morning and while shaving his face, considered the color of your skin.

The rest us never think about the color of your skin.

You however are man of weak character, possessed by an attitude of “putting my time in” and that is just untenable.

You lack vision, passion and critical thinking required for a leadership position.

Your race aside, you should consider being more introspective and stop “white washing” your personal failure.

I am still not supporting the RNC and it because of issue such New York 23, were you thought you knew better than the voters who should be supported by RNC apparatus.

Please resign.
