According to Bloomberg News, the Obama administration has zeroed in on three candidates to replace Justice John Paul Stevens, who now says he "will surely" retire during Obama's presidency, and two are women.

The front-runner is Solicitor General Elena Kagan and the other two are federal appellate judges Diane Wood and Merrick Garland.

Dang you beat me to it. But I guess the minute someone said “3” that was inevitable.

Yup, Flimsy Gramnesty is still there. Maybe I am overly optimistic, but I still hold out hope that Kagan’s strident crusade at Harvard will offend the JAG officer in him.

Celebrate diversity!

Stevens was born and grew up in Chicago also. He also lived in Hyde Park and went to the same school that Obama's kids later attended. He went to law school at Northwestern, which is close to Chicago.

Without knowing anything about these candidates, I can only guess that there must be a Compelling Diversity Feature about them missing on the lib wing of the Court. So which one of the three is the ‘out and proud’ homosexual?

The jurist could be as dumb as a box of rocks, but as long as they are “The First” something or other on the list of favored classes among the politically correct, that’s all that matters. Oh, that and a strict adherence to ‘social justice’ and marxism.

Well, then, it’s the Chicago seat. Can’t break with tradition, can we?

It might be interesting to check on Ms. Kagen’s personal life...oh, never mind...it doesn’t seem to exist.

Hmmm.

I believe Stevens was also at the World Series game in 1932 where Babe Ruth called his shot at Wrigley Field.

It’s amazing there’s a guy with a decisive vote on the Supreme Court who actually saw Babe Ruth play.

she makes the most sense of the three. Wood is 60, and apparently has a rather extensive record of pro-abortion rulings that have been overturned by the SC. Garland is 58, and as a boring white guy doesn’t really do anything politically for Obama.

Kagan is a woman, and she’s Jewish, so she fills two categories at the same time. Also she’s never been married and has no kids, so she may be gay, which would fill 3 at the same time. Appointing another Jew to the court would probably help Obama heal whatever rift has developed over his policies towards Israel. And, Kagan was apparently well regarded by conservatives during her stint as dean of Harvard Law School. Plus, she’s never been a judge so she has no record. And the never being a judge thing will be a bold move that the media will give him credit for. Lastly she’s only 50, so she can be presumed to stick around for a while. She won’t be filibustered. A Princeton and Oford Grad + Harvard Law Magna Cum Laude.

Since she’ll be replacing Stevens it won’t matter.

The real struggle will be over the Kennedy and Scalia seats. They’ll both turn 74 this year. I think they can both make ith through his first term, but I wouldn’t bet on them both making it through his 2nd term.

The GOP needs to win in 2012 to hold the Scalia seat and replace Kennedy with a more solid conservative. As long as that happens, none of Obama’s picks will mean anything.

Kagan will be the choice unless Obama can find one of those wiz kids that jsut graduated law school at the age of 19.

Wait a sec! When a woman or minority leaves the court, the lefties are sure to remind us that their seat must be filled with another woman or minority. This must be a white-man seat...

Ah, yes, Cyndi Wood, Miss February 1973

Right, left, it didn't matter. They were both great.
