Former Reason magazine Editor in Chief Virginia Postrel has seen the strengths and the shortcomings of the American health care system both as a kidney donor and a breast cancer survivor.
She argues that individuals should be free to sell their organs, and that encouraging organ markets may be the best way to save the lives of the more than 100,000 Americans currently awaiting transplants.

I worry about the poor black men who will be hit the hardest by these sales. However much Obama got for his brain (I hope a good price since the organ was unused), it wasn’t enough to get him through life as a mindless zombie.
She’s right about Medicare. My 80 year old mother went into a diabetic coma. We called 911 for an ambulance as there was no way we could get her to the hospital. When the bill was submitted for payment Medicare refused it - told her she should have found ‘some other way’ to get to the hospital. It took multiple submissions & explanations before they finally covered it.
They were as nasty to deal with as any private insurer!
Government HC, known as Medicare, has a higher ‘turn down’ rate that even the toughest private sector health insurance company.
Rush gave the percentages one day a week or so ago.
