Argentina demands turnover of Falklands

BUENOS AIRES, - Argentina marked the anniversary of the 1982 Falklands war with a parade, and the country's president says Britain should turn over the islands .

Argentina invaded the Falklands, claiming they were part of its sovereign territory, but a British counter-invasion defeated the Argentines, who lost 904 lives.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner delivered a national address on the anniversary Friday from Ushuaia, which was the hub of the Argentine military operations during the 1982 conflict, The Times of London reported. Under Argentine law it is the capital of the region that encompasses the islands, which Argentina calls the Malvinas, which lie some 340 miles out to sea.

Kirchner said Britain's claim of "sovereignty from a distance of 14,000 kilometers (about 8,700 miles) is not sustainable, neither historically, nor legally, nor geographically -- but, above all, it is not sustainable logically," The Times reported.

She added: "It's not an exercise of sovereignty but rather colonialism and probably the last such one. The question of the Malvinas is a stain that should be rubbed out."

After she spoke, war veterans held a march in Buenos Aires shouting, "Give us back our islands!" and "Out with the pirates!".

Hundreds of veterans and militant political groups gathered in the Buenos Aires banging drums and carrying sticks, finally converging on the British Embassy. Riot police were deployed to control them, The Times said.

I have an idea. How about a referendum. We’ll see who the Falklanders want to belong to.

Since no Argentines live on the islands, its pretty clear how such a referendum would turn out, I think.

So now the question is, how many Argentines is Cristina willing to kill in order to claim a land where no Argentines live and none have ever lived? Do you suppose this is about oil? Do you suppose that the Argentines are prepared to wage a war for oil?

That doesn’t sound very nice, does it?

Prayers for the people of the Falklands, who are likely to endure the murderous wrath of socialist scum...

This is the first shot in the war of socialist aggression.

To boil it down, they’re basically saying: They’re ours because it’s closer to us and populations of poor countries like wars of conquest, so it becomes a popular view.

How can Argentina lose with a party founded by the Nazi Peron and led by far left wingers currently. When will O go and bow down to Cristina?

A lot of it is national pride. The people like it when they’re part of a strong country. It wouldn’t matter if the islands were just dirt.

They realize that with Obama in the White House they have a window of opportunity, so they have to move fast.

British irate over Hillary comments on Falklands

The Obama administration continued its “smart power” efforts with America’s closest ally by demanding that the UK negotiate with Argentina over the Falkland Islands.

The Kirchners and the Obamas are birds of a feather.

They are the same people. The Obamas are probably going to help them make this happen. In any case, I don’t think the Kirchners have any fear of a US response with the O calling the shots. And I think his retirement fund is secure, though. He’ll be right up there with the Clintons, a large bank account that no one can account for other than mystery “speaking engagements”.

The one by Sarah Brightman was much better!!! Having said that, I believe either Isabel or Evita Peron would have enough common sense not to get Argentina involved in a war with a country that has seen the following military operations:

1) Gulf War 1990-1991
2) Bosnia 1992
3) Sierra Leone 1999
4) Afghanista/Iraq 2001-present
