Soon to change, I suppose, if Sen. Preuitt's decision is an augur of the political environment.
Preuitt and Butler are pretty entrenched. They sbould win.
How about the GOP guy running in the primary - Bobby Ray Holmes? Is he a conservative or is Jim Preuitt more conservative than Holmes? Since I’m not from the South, I don’t really know much about them, lol.
I disagree. If Pelosi wasn't speaker, Obamacare wouldn't have even been brought up for a vote. It wouldn't have even have gotten out of committee, so there wouldn't have been a "substantial" vote on it. Majority control is everything. You set the agenda. You decide what gets voted on. Majority control means you don't bring anything to the floor for a vote unless you know you're going to get the votes to pass it in the form you want.
If he was a CommieCrate, there is no way he could possibly be a Conservative - and RINOs are not welcome - send him back across the divide!
Absolutely, I don't disagree with you about the majority control. I'd just like to know more about those Democrats changing their affiliation to the GOP and the reason they are switching parties. If they are only doing it out of fear of losing in the next election, once they win, I am afraid they won't be reliable votes when we have control of a chamber, and could stymie conservative legislation by not supporting it.
As for a GOP majority, it is my hope this happens come November.
Are you sure he is not switching just to win?
So he went from Socialist to Liberal...
Sweet.
Hopefully the GOP will win at least the State Senate.
It’s time to shake off those vestiges of the past.
Reconstruction rather than reformation
State Senate is going to be a tall order. Those districts are pretty well gerrymandered and unlike the House the Senate doesn’t have a reputation as being a body where people get along to get along.
One of the reasons Prueitt switched I would imagine is because the current group of people running the Senate now are among the most petty that have been around ever.
That’s the thing. Hubbert won’t go down with a fight (and if the GOP takes over he’ll suddenly start supporting Republicans, he’s already done it in school board races) and there are many people in the state who are simply scared of contributing to the GOP Senate effort because if Bedford and Barron hang on their will be political consequences for anyone who opposed them.
I view taking the House as more likely. Less of a hurdle to go for. Seats not as gerrymandered and more prime pick ups for seats.
It’s the South. For a long time the word “Republican” was a four letter word down here because Southerners associated the GOP with Abraham Lincoln.
Now, it is obvious to everyone involved that Lincoln’s spirit now animates the Dems but on the local level many Southerners don’t see that. Obama was the spark that made them see. The old system probably would have stuck around forever if not for Obama.
Obama is quite the eye opener for a lot of people. He has become a teachable lesson for so many people, presenting compelling evidence not to vote for a Democrat again, especially one that hasn’t been fully vetted.
Interesting.
If it gets close enough in either chamber can you see a repeat of what happened with the Georgie State Senate? Where IIRC a couple rats switched and took the majority with them. This Butler sounds like a candidate.
