Church to hold huge 'Helicopter Egg Drop' for Easter

SAN ANTONIO -- When you think of Easter egg hunts, you normally look for what's on the ground. But one local church is doing something a bit different this year.

Northrock Church gave News 4 WOAI a sneak peek at the hundreds of eggs they will be dropping from helicopters. The pastor said this is the first time they have done this, and they wanted to put a different spin on egg hunts.

"This is one of those events that appeals to older children as well as younger children, because everyone thinks it's cool when a helicopter flies over and pours easter eggs out the side," said Paster Jonathon Moore.

Northrock church's easter egg drop is Saturday at Lopez Middle School on the practice fields. The gates open at 9:20 a.m., and the chopper will start dropping the eggs around 11:00 a.m.

The event is FREE and open to any one who wants to take part.

Shouldn’t they be celebrating Christ Risen and not dropping eggs from helicopters? I’m just sayin...

In my TX town, one church has on their sign:
Wii giveaway, April 4th.

I found that rather odd.

They are doing this at a church I used to attend in Houston as well.

I hope they’re empty. If the eggs are dropped from as low as 20 feet(6 meters) they are going to hit the ground at about 24 m.p.h. Any lower and the prop wash from the helicopter is going to cause problems.

Arthur Carlson.

BTW, eggs from a helicopter...wouldn't that hurt if they landed on you.

I imagine these are the plastic Easter eggs, correct? And the kids will be kept clear of the drop spot until they’ve all been released ... sounds like great fun!! What’s Easter about? </sarc>

Stark has been a pain in the butt long before Pelosi. He’s the one who insulted a townhaller as “not being worth the urine” in re “don’t P on my leg and tell me it’s raining.”

Good Lord in heaven! I guess Christ crucified and raised again on the third day so that our sins would be forgiven just isn’t a big enough attraction the way a Wii is. *sigh*

Have they given this a test run or are they just doing it? I hate to think of what the eggs will look like upon impact....
