US abortion doctor killer gets life

A born-again Christian who said he killed a prominent US abortion doctor to save the lives of unborn babies has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 50 years.

Judge Warren Wilbert also sentenced Scott Roeder, 52, to an additional two years in prison for threatening two ushers who tried to stop him as he fled after shooting Doctor George Tiller to death in the foyer of a Kansas church last May.

Tiller, 67, was one of a handful of doctors in the United States to perform abortions into the third trimester of pregnancies and had been a lightning rod for anti-abortion foes, who nicknamed him "Tiller the baby killer".

His murder made national headlines in a country deeply divided over whether women should continue to have legal access to abortion.

It also shut down one of the few clinics in the country capable of performing complex and controversial late-term abortions.

Public defender Mark Rudy insisted that there were no aggravating factors to warrant the "Hard 50" for Roeder, who faced a minimum of 25 years in jail after being convicted of first degree murder.

Rudy said that abortion providers are not granted extra protection under state law, and that the case was not supposed to put the issue of abortion on trial.

I would not have voted to convict either. And as you said he killed babies for a LIVING, disgusting. I watched some of that trial, and saw Tillers wife, tears flowing, now I know she must have been distraught at losing her lover/provider. She was in her finery, supplied by her husbands activity.

She may have been crying because she will no longer afford the live style she has become accustomed to from the deaths of all those babies.

The Tillers are disgusting people, even more so by attending CHURCH, for what??? Looking like pillars of society, and that CHURCH knew what he was doing, they took his tithes earned by him from KILLING all those babies. That church be damned.

If our country had not gone astray with Roe v. Wade, none of this would have happened. I won’t justify the killing of Killer Tiller, but I can understand it.

So, Scott Roeder gets life in prison and Bill Ayres gets a prestigious professorship and the admiration of the press.

Roe vs. Wade is the culprit.

Life? That’s too bad. Roeder should have demanded the
death penalty and made Tiller’s death really mean something.
Now he’ll live on and probably demean his action.

Oh, I would have voted to convict and for the
death penalty too. There is a price to be paid,
even for rightous acts. Roeder knew this and
should have demanded it.
