FREMONT NUMMI produced its last car at 9:40 a.m. today.
The red Toyota Corolla rolled off the line, as hundreds of employees, dignitaries and company officials watched, according to workers and union leaders. The car is believed to be destined for a museum in Japan.
"It's over," said Javier Contreras, an official with the United Auto Workers.

The loss of union jobs can only be blames on one thing, the union itself. Now that NUMMI is closed, there will be a tremendous loss of jobs and area businesses will also lose out. If the union was willing to take a small cut in pay, NUMMI would still be producing vehicles. THANK YOU VERY MUCH UAW AND IT'S SELFISH UNION LEADERS.

Thank the UAW, the wonderful pro-business climate in the state of California, and Mr. Jobs himself, Barrack Hussein Obama!

Employees honked their horns as they left the plant following their final shifts this morning. Some went to nearby restaurants, others went bowling or to a sports bar near the Fremont factory. Of course, no mention of why manufacturers are fleeing California. Just get drunk and fiddle while California burns.

Unions killed GM and Chrysler and they are bankrupting cities, states and the USA. Thugs.

The East bay was already sinking anyway.

I do NOT want to buy any car from that plant produced in the last month.
The UAW guys I know would probably not tighten screws down and such to “get even.”
Should come with a sticker: “WARNING - produced by UAW workers about to lose their jobs”

The radio program
This American Life had an absolutely fascinating show about the history of NUMMI. Here's a
link. Click on "stream episode" to listen. Highly recommended.

I once owned a Chevy Nova (actually just a slightly camouflaged Toyota Corolla) that was made in that plant.
Very nice car.

Yes - all of those factors! On the bright side, Texas gains more manufacturing jobs.
