UPDATE: Mail box bombs found in Rusk County, Longview

Mail box bombs found Tuesday in Rusk County and in Longview prompted the ATF and U.S. Postal Inspection Service to raise to $25,000 the reward leading to arrest and conviction of the suspect in a rash of mail box bombings in East Texas. With a pipe bomb-like device discovered in a residential home's mail box at Lake Cherokee around noon on Tuesday, another found in a bank of collection boxes at a business address and a similar device left not in a mail box at all but at a business site in Tyler on Monday, the perpetrator may be changing their M.O. weeks into a spree of mail-related crimes, said postal inspector and spokeswoman Amanda McMurrey.

I looked and did not find this posted. I was surprised, but I had not heard of it until just now.

a pipe bomb-like device discovered in a residential home's mail box

My custom mailbox was almost blown up two years ago by a "bomb like device" that was placed in it. Fortunately it only blew off the door.

A number of years ago a lady I worked with had a son who was a senior in high school that was hangin around with a bad kid. One evening they placed "a bomb like device" in a mailbox and it blew up real good.........they got busted tho.

The son got probation and community service and learned a very, very valuable lesson..........FWIW, the son's father was a cop in that community...LOL!

We lived in Henderson for 9 years, and Longview was the BIG CITY! :)

I was thinking kids but they just said on Foxnews that they are now saying there have been 30 of them, some dropped in mail drop boxes and some in private mailboxes. They do not seem to have any idea of a motive.
Very sad that, for whatever reason, there are people out there who would hurt random innocent people.

Having been a kid who did a series of stupid things during the summer of 1968, I would say it was kids............

I lean that direction, but 30? That’s a lot of bombs.

About 10 or 15 years ago, some nut was shooting at vehicles on Interstate 20 in and around Longview...sniper style. It went on for months. Not sure if they ever caught them or not, but it was nerve racking driving through those parts for awhile. I made my son lie down on the floor board of the Tahoe when we had to drive thru Longview during that time. Wonder what it is about Longview...lol?

I don’t recall that, but it may have been before we moved there in 1995. Lots of crazies everywhere. I guess I just don’t expect it out there, but I don’t know why I wouldn’t.

Never did that as a kid. Did plenty of other stupid stuff though. Kids don’t realize but your mail-box is considered property of the US Postal System and sticking ‘’bomb like devices(and cherry bombs) in someones mail box can be considered a felony.

I hope they catch whoever is doing this before someone gets hurt.

I agree. A friend from Henderson just told me that he had to wait to go to the PO the other day because someone had put a molotov cocktail in a mail box. Talk about stupid! Sheesh!
