Hutchison may reveal whether she's staying or leaving Senate
The Dallas Morning News ^ | 03/31/2010

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is expected to announce her political plans today in San Antonio.

Aides to Hutchison said late Tuesday that she would appear there with her Texas Republican colleague, Sen. John Cornyn, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky for a news conference.

Though the statement made no mention of a topic, Hutchison has said frequently that she would leave the Senate before her term ends in 2012. Several state politicians have already declared their interest in running in a special election to replace her.

But Cornyn, McConnell, Gov. Rick Perry and every member of the Texas Republican delegation to the U.S. House have urged Hutchison to reconsider, saying her seniority and experience are too valuable for Texas to lose.

If Hutchison loves this country she would at least stay until her term runs out and not seek re-election. Her quitting now would give the Democrats a filibuster-proof majority once again.

Based on that the only reason I can guess that she wants to quit is to basically give a big F-U to the GOP.

The next line is even more appropriate.

If I stay there will be trouble
If I go there will be double

Seems about right to me.

Any Senator who thinks they are important and really matter should ask themselves, “When is the last time anyone asked about Chuck Hagel?”.

What’s the law in Texas? Wouldn’t the Gov. appoint an interim seat filler until the special election?

She needs to go. The sooner the better. Hopefully Perry will replace her with a conservative.

Oh, she’s leaving, whether it’s now or at her end of current term. She just doesn’t know it yet.

If wagering were allowed on the Internet, I would wager, since she won’t be governor, she will decide to stay in the Senate, at least until the end of her term.

She thought should would take TX by storm and get another job title added to her Wikipedia entry. She lost. She had no intention of resigning her Senate seat, unless she won the TX primary.

The problem with politicians is that they have to have a certain conceitedness inborn to even want to be a politician in the first place. At least that's my opinion--after all, who really wants to have the power to determine how people live out their lives?

Another part of their personality craves attention, wanting to be in the spotlight as often as possible. Then--there are just us plain ole folk who want to be left alone......

I seem to recall her saying a couple of terms ago that she would voluntarily term-limit herself. She promised she’d serve only two terms...

McConnel and republican senate leaders aided in the passage of the healthcare bill.

McConnel should have made the democrats read the bill on the senate floor so everyone would have known what was in the bill.

Also, it takes two votes from the minority party to get a bill out of committee, so the bill should have never made it to the floor.

Look for republicans to support Cap & Trade and Immigration reform.

Correct.... The governor will appoint a replacement until a special election can be held on an approved election date. At that time a senator would be elected to fill the remainder of the term which expires in 2012. The gov could call an emergency special election if the approved election date is a long way off but he doesn’t have to. Also the special election is a jungle type where all candidates run on the same ballot [no primary] and the winner must have 50%+1 to win or there is a run off between the top two voter getters regardless of party.
