Florida Gov. Charlie Crist badly needs some help in his Senate race, as he's currently trailing fellow Republican Marco Rubio. He'd hoped to get some of that help with an endorsement from retired Col. Bud Day, a former Swift Boat Vet. Instead, Crist got a new round of controversy, thanks to some remarks by Day:
[Snip]
"You've got the black one with the reading thing. He can go as fast as the speed of light and has no idea what he's saying," Day said. "I put Rubio in that same category, except I don't know if he's using one of those readers."
This all seems to be related to the idea, inexplicably almost now taken as gospel on the right, that Obama can't speak without a teleprompter. At the New Republic, Jonathan Chait calls this a "racist trope" and suggests that this particular example is, essentially, Rubio's chickens coming home to roost, as the former Florida House speaker has used it himself.
I'm not quite as sure that the idea itself is tied to racism; clearly this example has some serious racial overtones, and that may be a part of it, but I also think it's tied to a desire on the part of some Republicans to get some intellectual vindication for former President George W. Bush. What do you all think?

Right you are of course; and hence we have the big ‘oh’ ‘O’ that we recognize as only a big Zer - O.
Where is Soros pulling Rahm’s strings from?
Oh, OK; waaay over on the left!
“what politician doesnt use a teleprompter?”
Most politicians do indeed use teleprompters. But unlike Obama, some actually understand what they’re reading.
Time to change that from Bush using the teleprompter to the photo of Obummer using two teleprompters at that elementary school.
We hate black teleprompters? I had no idea.
This liberal tactic is so old, so stupid, so ineffective, and such a lie, and it is nothing but a bad joke.
PS: Liberals are racists.
Guess it would depend on the color of the teleprompter as to whether it could be called racist.
Why, of course criticism of Obama’s overuse of his friend Totus is racist. Why is that? Because, according to libs, any criticism of Obama about anything is considered racist. To these nitwits Obama is supposed to be beyond criticism. Which is why scribblers like the moron who wrote this article fairly faint at the sight of The Great Spreader and jostle with each other to be able to touch the hem of his garment. No criticism of Obama the Great must be allowed. However depicting George Bush as a moron and chimpanzee is perfectly ok and NOT!!! racist.
“EVERY criticism of 0bama is racist!”
Thats what Cryptkeeper Colmes said on O`Reilly last night. That all criticism of or disagreement with the Emperor by non-libs is racist or based on racism. Libs can disagree with him or criticise him and it`s not racist. But if non-libs do, it`s racist.
And so, Alan, your solution is that we just “shut up and fall in line”?
Is that what you’re telling us we should do?
Make me.
That is to get us to shut-up and sit down...they forget it was white people that put Obama in the White House.
This is a great example of how the internet has made us all dumber.
The CHARGE, later shown false, was that Obama used a teleprompter to talk with a class of "6th-graders", not 6-year-olds.
In the end, it was learned the teleprompter was set up for his press conference after the meeting with the kids.
Which I guess could be considered "in front of 6-year-olds", if we are talking mental age.
Don’t let it work, and they will eventually stop using it.
“And so, Alan, your solution is that we just shut up and fall in line?
Is that what youre telling us we should do?”
Thats exactly what he was telling us to do. Remain silent or be accused of racism.
Is the media and the left’s obsession with Sarah Palin and the writing on her hand sexist? See, two can play at this game!
He needs to have people leave that screaching Hillary “I am sick and tired” soundclip over and over again on his voicemail.
“Enjoy reading Milton Friedman over Norm Chomsky”
That’d be Noam Chomsky. When I was a kid, I used to get him confused with Norm Crosby.
Apparently I’m not the only one.

Norm Crosby . . . Live, on Campus!
Fenster Moop writes:
Dear Blowhards,
A couple of weeks back I got an invitation to see a performance by Norm Crosby on campus. I love doubletalk so I said yes, sure.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that it wasn’t Norm Crosby but Noam Chomsky!
But it went OK. I was expecting a perfomance by a guy whose schtick has been stuck in amber since 1967 and instead I got . . . a performance by a guy whose schtick has been stuck in amber since 1967.
And hey, Noam was at least as good at doubletalk as Norm! (rimshot)
Run it through the loud speakers at the next tea party.
