Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx traveled to Washington, D.C., two weeks ago to meet with President Barack Obama. Now, Obama is planning a trip to Charlotte.
"Next week we will have as much of a connection as you can have with a visit from President Obama," said Mayor Foxx, who Friday toured a steel plant in north Charlotte.
The tour was part of Foxx's initiative to keep existing jobs in Charlotte, and jobs is what he wants to hear about from the president during his visit here Friday.
"The country wants to focus on jobs and how we create jobs in this climate," Foxx said.
The Charlotte region has seen some 62,000 layoffs since the start of the recession, but Foxx says there have also been some success stories that he wants to share with Obama, like the new hundreds of new jobs created just this month at Siemens Energy.
"The administration wants to shift way we deliver energy in this country. Well, we've got an energy producer in our community and many supporting services, and that industry wants to help reinvent the way this country delivers energy," said Foxx.
Some Democratic Party leaders are already talking about luring the Democratic National Convention to Charlotte in 2012.
Party Chairman Joel Ford said cost had to be weighed but added, "I am excited that we are even having the conversation."
Asked if Obama's visit might be a prelude to getting the convention, Foxx laughed and said, "I don't know. We'll all treat it like an early interview."
The White House and city officials are still working on the details of the visit, trying to firm up a location where Obama will speak. Foxx said he hoped it would be a public event, as much as that is possible when dealing with security.

Ping!
Tell Charlotte to hide the silverware.
Excellent! Thanks for the information. Now you know where I’ll be on Friday!
Obama is going to another Blue State....
NC going blue must have Jesse Helms rolling over in his grave...too many LIBERAL Yankees moved to CARY and Charlotte and are destroying a beautiful state.
Too many liberals here already. They moved here and changed our city!
Wonderful.
I’m suppose to be traveling through Charlotte on Friday on my way to Florida. I should be passing though there about same time as Barry is there. I hope they don’t shutdown the Interstate because of his visit.
Its not enough that Zero screwed up my health care. Now he might screw up my spring vacation.
I notice barry won’t go to any “Red States”....bet he wouldn’t dare step foot in South Carolina......Anyway hopefully he will get a “Proper” Reception in Charlotte....
He’s on a 24/7 vacation on our time. They are going to have to replace AF1. He’s going to wear it out. A pathological narcissist has to have constant attention and accolades.
He might as well be Harry Reid saying "We lost 62,000 jobs and that's pretty good!"
North Carolina: 11.2% unemployment, 42nd worst state of the 57 US States as of Feb/2010... and I suspect that the extra 'states' are actually better off than NC.
I lost my job when Lowes outsourced hundreds of contractor jobs to Chennai, India. I moved to Alabama to find work.

"Our President? Like the sign on the back of my pickup says,
He's not MY President.

I read today at NRO that BO’s takeover of the student loan industry will cost 30,000 private sector jobs in the banking sector. This should really help Charlotte /s
I hope thousands protest this Empty Suit.
Tell us if it is anything other than another staged event?
Charlotte and Ashville are infested with smelly liberal maggots. It’s a natural infestation for obuma to show up and suck sewer water and eat worms.
