VANITY....need to CHANGE Age of Majority to 27
me ^ | me

Posted on 03/30/2010 1:16:56 PM PDT by goodnesswins

With the initiation of so many benefits to "children" up to the age of 26, I believe it is time to create a movement to change the Age of Majority in this country to 27....yes, I borrowed this from a caller to Rush today....but, I think it's a great idea. Maybe we can start at the STATE level with this???

Here's my thoughts....add yours....

1) No "child" under age 27 will be allowed to...

VOTE

ENTER a CONTRACT

DRINK alcohol

Have medical procedures w/o parental approval

UNLESS...

A) they are military

B) they work fulltime (over 1800 hours per year) and pay taxes on that work

Currently you can’t claim anyone over the age of 16. That is such a crock. You are responsible for them, yet you are allowed to claim them on your taxes.

Are you people really serious??

Why stop with youth then, for starters repeal the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

anyone who receives money from either the State or Federal government, or a subsidy of any kind - not eligible to vote.

Does this include military?

Might be giving my age away...but I remember when a person who was 26 was considered a full adult, and then some.

People used to marry at 21 or 22...by 26 they had a mortgage and two kids, maybe more.

Adults, used to be...well...adult.

Whatever happened with that?

I agree.

AND No Drivers License until the child is 25 years old.

If Obama can be his ridiculous self, so can I.

What a superb idea — except for those who have served in combat.

Agree and I’m only 24 (25 on Thursday).

But I work full time, own my own property and pay taxes.

So, I’m game.

Some people don't wish to be married and have children in their early-20's to mid-20's and there is nothing wrong with that pathway, either.

Adults, used to be...well...adult.

Whatever happened with that?

By the time I was 18 I, and the rest of my 4-man crew, had the keys to launch a 9MT nuke on a ICBM.

That kind of responsibility makes you grow up real fast.

It also cemented me as a conservative.

Works for me. They should have a huge say as to who is authorized to send them into harms way.

All other military get 5 votes and veterans get 2 votes.

I'm assuming that there would be a exception for military, either active duty or pulling the 20 year pension. Never disenfranchise the people with the guns.

I agree with the sentiment but it will need some fine tuning. You’d have to make exceptions for stay at home parents, or parents that work part time. At 26, I had a mortgage and two children at home with a third on the way. I worked part time, homeschooled the oldest and made a home for my husband who worked full time to support us.

So we need to support those young people who have actually grown up and are being responsible.

Will it be a crime to sleep with 25 and 26 year old women?

God, I hope not - I'd hate to have to break it to my 26 year old girlfriend and our 25 year old girlfriend!
