ROANOKE - Wintesses tell WSLS that a plane has crashed into a building by Roanoke Regional Airport.
WSLS’s Roanoke Wachovia Towercam can see heavy smoke rising from the area.
More information as we get it.

I have saido that if a pilot decided to crash his plane into a building shortly after takeoff or near final approach, there is nothing that could be done. However this looks like a real accident.

On FOX now. 2 people on plane, it veered off the runway and into UPS freight building. Huge fire. Now put out.

LOL - Roanoke is a fairly small airport. Hopefully this is just a general aviation aircraft, and not something carrying a lot of passengers. Chances of survival after striking a building, I imagine are slim.

On Fox they’re saying it was a private plane, coming in to land. Seems to have veered off and crashed into a UPS freight building, and caught fire.

Roanoke is a difficult airport. It’s at the foot of mountains. It can be hard to get in and out of. My brother once flew out of it and almost didn’t clear the mountains. If the weather is as bad there as it is here (Philly), this could well be an accident.
