RNC Denies Steele Expensed Trip to X-Rated Club (who is Erik Brown, DNC having field day)
Baltimore Sun ^ | March 29, 2010 | Baltimore Sun News

Posted on 03/29/2010 12:02:58 PM PDT by SmartInsight

The Democratic National Committee is having a field day Monday at the expense of its cross-town rivals at the RNC--or the "Risque National Committee," as the Dems put it in one of the blizzard of e-mailed releases they are sending out.

The Daily Caller says the FEC filings "suggest" that "Steele travels in style." From there it wasn't much of a leap for the DNC to send out emails stating that "Yes, it appears that Michael Steele spent RNC money" at the nightclub.

SNIP

It contains a payment to Erik Brown, at an address in Orange, California, who was reimbursed for the $1,946.25.

Brown is a Republican direct mail consultant (his business address is the one on the FEC report). He did not immediately respond to a telephone call from The Baltimore Sun.

Doug Heye, the RNC's chief spokesman, has issued the following statement:

“We are investigating the expenditure in question. The story willfully and erroneously suggests that the expenditure in question was one belonging to the Chairman. This was a reimbursement made to a non-committee staffer. The Chairman was never at the location in question, he had no knowledge of the expenditure, nor does he find the use of committee funds at such a location at all acceptable. Good reporting would make that distinction crystal clear. The committee has requested that the monies be returned to the committee and that the story be corrected so that it is accurate.”

The RNC said the Daily Caller story was "riddled with misleading information and inaccuracies."

I don’t necessarily know the details of this but with some of the other controversies around Steele, it’s probably time for him to go.

At the very least we know that the RNC did reimburse a consultant for almost two grand spent at a SM go-go bar. It was discovered because it was reflected on a financial disclosure. So at a minimum Steele is signing off on Party financials he doesn’t bother to read. For that alone he should be shown the door.

> So let’s continue to build bigger Democrat majorities in the House and Senate because of “standards”.

How about we toss out the scumbags who stuff our RNC contributions into a stripper’s G string and get someone instead who actually, oh... I don’t know... FUNDS GOP CANDIDATES SO THEY WIN???

I know. Crazy to expect competence or integrity in the RNC. What was I thinking.

Well I read the article linked and I must say it is so convoluted as to be incomprehensible.

But I have some thoughts on the matter, as is my wont.

The Daily Caller is a site operated by Tucker Carlson, hardly any left-winger. I’ll allow as Tucker is sort of a moderate but he’s no Huffington. He’s not much of a dancer, by the way.

Which makes me wonder out loud how he got this information about Steele and why he repeated it. There’s something to this story...as if somebody repeated the story “off the record” but the Daily Caller reported it “on the record”.

This means that someone violated a confidence but doesn’t mean the facts aren’t true.

About that nightclub thing....this is really confusing. The RNC FEC filing shows almost 2 grand paid to a topless nightclub specializing in imitating lesbian sex. Then the article says that right above is a reimbursement to some guy, Joe Blow, who is a direct mail consultant for the RNC.

So what? We assume Joe Blow paid out the money for a “business luncheon” at this x-rated club and the RNC is thereby reimbursing him?

Then it goes on to say that everything the Sun reported earlier is lies, that Steele did not refuse an interview, that the expenditure for this Voyeur night club was illegitimate and the RNC should be have the money returned.

Well why did they file it in an FEC report? Nobody questioned it before? This is weird.

This article is evidently a follow-up to the original Sun article that repeated all this stuff from the Daily Caller, only it is a refutation of the original article.

Very unclear but someone did spend money at this x-rated club I deduce, not necessarily Steele but could be.

I’m thinking that Steele did suggest purchasing an airplane for RNC use...just a hunch. Somebody said it off the record and Carlson’s group printed it on the record. The notion of buying an airplane for the RNC isn’t that bizarre. I imagine the Chairman does do a lot of traveling. I must wonder if the DNC has an airplane of some kind.

Maybe it’s not warranted but it’s not like the RNC is the devil incarnate for considering it.

In summary, this seems to be a bunch of gossip stuff, probably started by a close perusal of the FEC filing, something anybody can see and the pubs could get out of the tanning booths and look over those Dem FEC filings, I bet they’re a real hoot.

Tempest in a teapot.

Enough is Enough. While I have no doubt Steele did not know about this, there lies the problem. He does not know what is going on (and is a liberal republican to boot). Time for someone new.

He didn’t spend any of my money. As long as Steele is there, I’m not sending them a cent.

Apparently, it was some jerk staffer who went to the club and sought reimbursement for it. Calling for Steele’s scalp is doing the Devil’s work.

Steele should have never been chairman. Only got the job through affirmative action. Needs to be let go.

Hopefully, this offense will be egregious enough that we’ll get to pick our next chairman based on merit and not race but I doubt it.

We’d do well to make Martinez the figurehead chair but to leave the legwork to someone else.

“Included in the RNC’s report for February spending was $1,946.25 for “meals” at Voyeur West Hollywood..”

Uhh, West Hollywood is code for “Gay”.

What the hell would he be doing there anyways?

That’s the city where Sarah Palin was hung in effigy during the election.

Tucker Carlson responds to RNC complaints about DC’s Michael Steele article
The complaints from the RNC about this morning’s Daily Caller article, “High Flyer: RNC Chairman Steele suggested buying private jet with RNC funds,” while loud, lack substance. Despite claims to the contrary, no one from the committee has ever explained the specific circumstances of any of the expenses listed in its most recent disclosure filings.

Our questions remain: Why did the committee spend more than $17,000 on private jets in the month of February? How and why was RNC business conducted in a bondage-themed nightclub, and how and why were the nearly $2,000 in charges that resulted approved by RNC staff?

To be clear: We did not claim that Michael Steele personally visited Voyeur West Hollywood. In fact, and unfortunately, we still know almost nothing about that trip, including its purpose. If the RNC provides details, we’ll put them on the site immediately.

The Daily Caller requested interviews with Michael Steele on Jan. 14, Jan. 15, Jan. 18, Feb. 10, Feb. 23 and again on March 23. All were denied.

The story we ran today is accurate, as the RNC knows.

Most likely Erik Brown went to the club with friends and turned his tab in to be reimbursed thinking they’d never know it was a bondage club.

I know a man I thought to be a good man who was fired from a very high position because he charged thousands to his expense account that was going to a favorite stripper of his for performing dances for him in the “champagne room” of a sleazy strip club. That club advertised as having the “best burgers in town”.

Ok just looked up reviews on Voyeur in West Hollywood... first it straight ... and it seem to be the new hot night club in Hollywood for celebrities…

This is typical left wing BS…

Hey guess what I’m a Republican

I'm not a virgin

I don’t go to bed a 8 pm with milk and cookies…

I’ve been known to go to bars

I’ve been known to go to drink boozes (I like single malt Scotch )

I’ve been known to go to talk to women (good looking women)…

I have even been known to go to to a few strip clubs…

Ooooooo I’m an evil Republican hypocrite…NOT!

I’m acting like a straight male not a castrated feminized metro sexual leftist

I agree. This is no time to give the other side any kind of figurative ammunition. This country is in a fight for its life and we don’t need this kind of sloppiness from Steele. He’s becoming gaffetastic ala Biden. Get rid of him now before he really commits political suicide right before November.
